Obituary

Having accomplished her life's purpose, Katherine Chetna Hilton left her majestic mortal body behind on Thursday, February 12, 2026. She was twenty-two years old.

Chetna was born in Calcutta, India, on November 24, 2003. Her parents, Sterling and Heidi, had been actively working to adopt for several years and were matched with Chetna when she turned three months old. After receiving an undeniable spiritual confirmation that Chetna was indeed their daughter and following another long year of paperwork, they traveled to India and met Chetna in person for the first time. She traveled home to Utah with her parents and quickly became the sun around which her family revolved.

Chetna's twenty-two years on this earth were filled with the spirit of adventure and a genuine joie de vivre . She loved swimming, riding Soarin' Around the World and Radiator Springs Racers at Disneyland, and tasting the wind. Chetna ran on her high school cross country team with the help of her intervener and teammates, and she hiked up mountains, rappelled down cliffs, and climbed up and slid down water slides at summer camp with the help of her sister Caroline. Chetna loved new experiences, trying new things, and tasting new foods at every opportunity. She truly sucked the marrow out of this life and showed us all that life should be lived to its fullest.

Chetna loved learning! She attended Sharon Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Lakeridge Jr. High, Mountain View High School, and ATEC. She took classes at BYU and loved being on campus and tackling coursework with her caregiver and intervener, Sarah. Chetna loved to read and especially enjoyed her daily reading time with her dad. She had a profound and lasting love for her many teachers, administrators, interveners, and classmates.

One of Chetna's deepest loves was music, and no day was complete without singing Taylor Swift and One Direction songs with her mom. She sang in the Lakeridge and MVHS choirs as well as BYU's Adaptive Show Choir, and she loved singing at the top of her lungs at church and going to concerts with her family, especially with her sister Liz. Chetna loved dancing and family dance parties, creating art, crushing her opponents in various card and board games, and watching her tried and true favorite movies. Chetna's favorite show was Downton Abbey , and she especially loved sitting on her dad's lap every evening with Mom on the couch next to her and settling in for a few episodes.

Chetna patterned her life after Christ's invitation to love one another. Because she had a gift for sharing and communicating love, strangers were drawn to her and people wanted to be in her presence. She listened to them, held space for them, met them where they were without judgment, loved them, calmed them, and offered them peace. Chetna loved serving family and friends, helping with household chores, and intentionally ministering to her assigned sisters in her ward. Her service was simply an extension of her love for God.

Because Chetna understood that death is simply a temporary separation from those left behind and a joyful reunion with those who have gone ahead, Chetna always smiled with joy when she heard of someone's death. We know she would like you to carry on with her tradition.

Chetna is survived by her parents, Sterling and Heidi Hilton, by her siblings: Elizabeth, who was also one of Chetna's legal guardians, Caroline (Matthew Lloyd), David (Haley Bowers), and Oliver Sitani (Jessica Rodriguez), and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, caregivers, and friends.
