Obituary

Kathie Jane (Pederson) Grames, August 14, 1947-July 28, 2022

Heaven gained a beautiful soul as our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend returned to her heavenly father. She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Kathie was born on August 14, 1947, in Sterling, Utah, to George and LaRue Pederson. She was born of fragile body but fought valiantly to overcome her physical struggles. She was raised in Manti, Utah, with her four sisters and brother until the family moved to Orem.

It was in Orem where she met her eternal sweetheart, Warren, and fell madly in love. Warren and Kathie courted and, after a brief time, knew they were destined to be together forever. They married in Warren's parents' home on July 18, 1963, just prior to Warren deploying to Vietnam. Kathie finished her education while she anxiously awaited his return. Warren and Kathie were reunited and sealed for all eternity in the Hawaii LDS temple.

Kathie and Warren lived in Logan, Utah, while Warren attended college and enjoyed the many friends and fellow church members she met along the way. Upon Warren graduating from college, the family moved to Provo, UT, Pleasant Grove, UT, Reno, NV, Las Vegas, NV, Colorado Springs, CO, and ultimately settled in Sandy, UT.

Kathie was blessed with the gift of motherhood to five children: Robert (deceased), Brendon (Dawn) of West Jordan, UT, Heath (Carolyn) of Petal, MS, Shauna Nielsen (Robert) of Cedar Hills, UT, and Jana Savage (Jake) of Riverton, UT.

Kathie loved Yellowstone National Park and seized every opportunity to spend time there, often referring to it as their second home. There, she developed a love for everything bears. Her collection was astonishing; she had bears in every shape and size.

Kathie was a true warrior in life and in spirit. She battled cancer and won, overcame many debilitating struggles with her health, but vowed to live life to its fullest. Those who knew Kathie never saw her without her beloved Warren by her side. They were an example of true love and were the best of friends. They shared a love rarely seen and often envied. She lost her beloved Warren who returned to our heavenly father in August 2013, and she has longed for their sweet reunion ever since.

Kathie was a bright light and a sweet spirit. She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren with smothering adoration. She never missed an opportunity to say I love you, and she meant it. She would always stand on the porch and wave until you were long out of sight, no matter the weather. Her laughter and energy were contagious; she could often be found dancing around the house to a song only she could hear. She was a beautiful soul full of love, happiness, and generosity. She will be remembered fondly, missed greatly, admired endlessly, and loved truly.

Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, George and LaRue, sisters, Bonnie and Donna, husband, Warren, son Robert, and grandson, Braedon. She is survived by her children, Shauna, Brendon, Heath, and Jana, their spouses, and 16 grandchildren.
