Obituary

Kelly Lee Johnson passed away from heart failure on August 1, 2017. Kelly was born in Provo, Utah September 3, 1956 and resided in Orem with his family until he served in the Canada Calgary Mission. In high school, his love of the theater blossomed and he was awarded a theater scholarship at Brigham Young University. At BYU, he earned a bachelors degree and was hired over the phone to teach in the Mesa, Arizona school district. Mesa is where he met his wife, Deirdra, in a singles ward. They were married on Friday, December 13, 1985. Kelly continued to teach drama and 9th grade English for 28 years. He was known for his creative ways of delivering his lessons and for his costumes- especially around Halloween. He loved to celebrate all the holidays, especially Christmas and family vacations. He was well loved as a stake missionary, cub master, and church teacher. While teaching in Mesa, he earned a masters degree in Education with a perfect GPA from Northern Arizona University. In March of 2010, Kelly and Deirdra moved to Utah to join the rest of their family living there. Kelly worked for the State of Utah then gained a degree in instructional design and worked in the field a short while before his health declined. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Red" Johnson and Betty Lou Reynolds Johnson, and survived by his wife Deirdra Smith Johnson, his children: Adam Lee Johnson Eric Martin (Kelly Ann) Johnson and Rachel Anne (Matthew) Robertson, his brother Terry (Susan) Johnson, and sister Debra (David) Long.
