Obituary

Kenneth Starr Smith, age 84, died peacefully at the Orchard Park Care Center in Orem, Utah where he was a resident, on Saturday December 2, 2017. He was born May 22, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lester Kenneth and Edna Mable Goodlad Smith. He served a mission to Eastern Canada under President Thomas S. Monson. He married Thelma Ann Reid on June 9, 1961 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He graduated from BYU with a BS in Psychology and Anthropology in 1963. He served in the US Army as an LDS Chaplain during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Major. Ken was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and he served the Lord in the church as an Elder, a Seventy, and as a High Priest. He served in many callings including BYU Branch President and Stake High Counselor. Ken served an LDS mission with his wife, Ann, as Employment Specialists in Washington D.C. from 2002 - 2004. He was a gifted teacher and counselor. His motto was: "Go forth to serve." He loved to help people spiritually, emotionally, and economically. Ken and Ann had a peaceful and very happy marriage. They raised ten beautiful children. One daughter, Michelle, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and his other children: Juli and Matt Beckwith, Laie, HI, 6 children and 1 grandchild; Angela and Brian Copeland, Rancho Santa Fe, CA; Laura Smith and Geno Harris, Vallejo, CA; Maria and Don Webster, Puyallup, WA, 5 children and 3 grandchildren; Antoinette Smith Rowe, Redmond, CA; Kenneth Starr Jr. and Dede Smith, Spanish Fork, UT, 3 sons; Samuel Reid and Molly Smith, Dallas, TX, 4 children; Elizabeth and Garritt Page, Provo, UT, 2 sons; Alexander Goodlad Smith, N. Seattle, WA, 2 children. Ken is also survived by his brother Bill Smith and his wife Jan and their family. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Valley Hills 1st Ward, 521 East 500 North, Heber City, Utah 84032. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
