Kent R. Gamette, a cheerful, caring, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, at the age of 75 with all of his family by his side. He was born on March 8, 1943, in American Fork, Utah, the second child born to Don V. and Ruth Robbins Gamette. He grew up in Pleasant Grove and Orem, Utah and graduated from Orem High School in 1961. Kent served in the United States Army Reserve as a medical specialist. Following his six months of military service, he was called to serve in the Southwest British Mission. Kent married his loving wife, Sharon Morrill, on September 10, 1964 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They lived, served, and worked together for 54 years. Their commitment to and love for each other had a positive influence on their children and all those around them. Kent graduated from BYU and continued his medical studies at Cornell University in New York City. After graduating from medical school, he continued with his residency at the University of Washington, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following his years of training and teaching, he joined the Provo Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic and served on the medical staff at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in 1977 and served for 35 years before his retirement in 2012. He served in many leadership positions at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and Timpanogos Regional Hospital and delivered more than 15,000 babies over the course of his career. Doctor Gamette is remembered by his colleagues as a firm advocate of expertise and knowledge in professional practice, but particularly as a loving friend and mentor. Kent found great joy in church service. He was a gifted leader and a loyal shepherd to all people, especially those he worked with as a bishop, stake president, MTC branch president, and director of the Volunteer Care Clinic. Kent enjoyed travel, yard work, and technology, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family. His family will also remember his fresh salsa, specialty fruit drinks, and banana splits on the Fourth of July. Kent is survived by his wife, five children: Kimberly Lohner (W. Scott), Shannon Wrigley (Scott), Gregory Kent Gamette (Kelli), Alisa Gardner (Jonathan), Jeffrey Kent Gamette (Wendy), 21 grandchildren and his sister, LuAnn March. Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jay R. Gamette and Leland A. Gamette. Kent dedicated his life to serving others in his work, in church, and in the home. His legacy of service, hard work, and pure love will live on with those who knew him. Kent's family is grateful for the compassionate care he received at Utah Valley Hospital, a place he loved and valued.
