Obituary

K. Kyle Matthews, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend, passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, from complications of a dilated heart (brought on by the Covid vaccine) while in his sleep on May 4, 2023, at his home in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Kyle was born on September 15, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Keith and Shirley Matthews. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Colter Matthews, and his children James Connor, Jackson (Jordan), Erin Murdock (Kaleb), and Tyler. He is also survived by his grandson, Colter Kyle, and his sisters, Adrienne Noakes and Lindsey O'Brien. Kyle was raised in Walnut Creek, California, where he enjoyed baseball and football (but definitely not swim team or piano lessons!).

Kyle lived his life to the fullest as husband, father, volunteer, and attorney. He graduated from BYU Law School and began his career as a Labor and Employment attorney in a San Francisco law firm then joined Kaiser Aluminum in Oakland, California and Houston, Texas. Kyle finished his career as the Vice President of Human Resources at Tellabs in Naperville, Illinois, and then at FMC in Philadelphia.

He loved coaching his children's soccer, little league and YMCA basketball teams. He also loved photography and creating videos of his children's sporting events and color guard programs which were enjoyed by participants and fellow team parents alike. He volunteered as a scoutmaster, employment liaison for local immigrants and in both youth and young adult programs at church for many years. Kyle enjoyed many activities including golf (he is a member of the hole-in-one club), running, yard work, reading, taking cruises with his family, making crepes for his children and their friends, playing Hearts and board games and working out at the gym followed by a steam or sauna. Outside of church and the office Kyle would be seen wearing shorts even while shoveling snow during the freezing Chicago winters. Other quirks included a love for Taco Bell, Star Wars, Pez dispensers, Red Vines, Milk Duds, Halloween and watches. He especially loved hiking, particularly the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim with family and friends and he also hiked rim-to-rim-to-rim in a day on two occasions. Other hikes included Mt. Whitney, Mt. Timpanogos, Half Dome, Cactus to Clouds, Mt. Washington, Mt. Marcy and many others. Kyle had a lively approach to life that brought joy and a smile to all those around him; he will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 4200 Foothill Blvd., Provo, Utah. Reception to follow immediately after the service. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Hills in Provo, Utah.
