Lanett Palmer Kummer's Obituary

Lanett Palmer Kummer passed away on June 12, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was a deeply devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who loved unconditionally and was profoundly loved by all who knew her.

As a single mother, Lanett raised her three children with a quiet resilience. They remain forever grateful for her immense strength, unwavering work ethic, and ability to power through life's challenges without ever uttering a complaint, even when times were at their toughest.

Lanett brought joy and magic to every holiday, using her vibrant creativity and dedication to make each occasion unforgettable, regardless of the effort it required. A woman of many talents, she was an extraordinary and passionate dancer. She possessed a natural gift for music, playing the piano beautifully by ear and later learning to play the harp. Lanett was also an exceptional artisan who mastered every craft she attempted. True to her craftsman spirit, she even helped her husband build a beautiful family cabin, creating a sanctuary where countless happy memories were made.

She is survived by her loving husband, Karl J. Kummer; her two sons, Jason Allen Shaw and Justin Chad Shaw; her daughter, Kira Shaw Parisi; her stepson, Kent J. Kummer; and a legacy of 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with more blessings on the way.

Funeral Services will be Monday, June 22, 2026, 11:00 am in the Cherry Hill 9th Ward, 135 East 2000 South, Orem. Family and friends may visit that morning from 9:30-10:30am at the church. Lanett Kummer

Lanett Palmer Kummer was born on July 30, 1950, to Albert J. Palmer and Blanche Ostler. Albert and Blanche had six children: Ronald, Dianne, Shirlene, Albert, Lanett, and Nadine, all of whom preceded Lanett in death.

She attended Timpanogos Elementary, Dixon Middle School, and Provo High School.

She married Glen Shaw on October 9, 1969. Together, they welcomed three children: their first boy, Jason, on August 8, 1970; a daughter, Kira, on January 4, 1972; and their youngest son, Justin, on September 28, 1976. For several years, Lanett and Glen managed and lived at the Hillcrest Motel on State Street with their children. Lanett later began working at Signetics, and on March 1, 1979, she bought her first home, where she would reside for the rest of her life.

Tragedy struck on August 16, 1980, when Glen was hit by a car, leaving Lanett to raise their three young children on her own. Following a long stay in a care center, Glen passed away on September 7, 1990.

Earlier that year, on January 27, 1990, Lanett attended a church dance where she met Karl J. Kummer. They built their dream cabin together where they made many beautiful memories. They shared a beautiful marriage lasting 36 years.

When Signetics closed its facility on December 31, 1992, Lanett chose to go back to school, successfully earning her associate’s degree from Utah Valley University. She went on to dedicate 20 years of service to Wasatch Mental Health, retiring on July 31, 2015.

Lanett was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with more on the way. She loved every one of them deeply and always made sure they knew it.

Lanett passed away on June 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
