Larry Grant Johnson 1938 - 2017 Larry Grant Johnson passed away on September 7, 2017 in Springville, Utah from Alzheimer's. He was born Dec. 7, 1938 in Provo, Utah the only child of Ivy Biggs Johnson and William Kent Johnson. Most of his early years were spent in Orem, Utah where he attended schools graduating from Orem High School and Brigham Young University. He learned a love of fishing and camping from his paternal grandparents and parents, who spent many days with him. He could catch more fish than anyone he was with. In high school, he excelled in sports and music. He also loved golf and continued playing all of his life until he could no longer remember how. He joined the Army Reserves in 1963 along with two of his friends and was sent to Fort Ord for basic training. On June 19, 1964, he married Eva Jean Reynolds in Provo, Utah. The marriage was solemnized 19 years later in the Provo Temple where they had their four children sealed to them. Larry taught school and was a beloved coach for 13 years in Idaho. He helped coach two state championship basketball teams. He changed careers, going into management at the Idaho National Engineering Lab where he worked for 24 years before retiring in 2000. He served for 15 years on the Blackfoot School Board, serving as chairman and making many good changes. He served in many church callings including: Cubmaster, Sunday school teacher, Stake High council, counselor in Bishopric, Stake clerk, and he and Eva worked for over 11 years as temple ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls temple. Larry is survived by his wife, Eva of Springville, Utah, Daughters Lori Frederick (Bob) of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Jody (Bryce) Hancock of Payson, Utah. Sons Kevan Johnson of Centerville, Utah and Scott (Kate) Johnson of Spanish Fork, Utah. 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 16 at the Springville Kolob 8th Ward, 840 South 400 East, Springville, Utah at 2:00 pm with a viewing prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 pm.
