Laureen Berdell Richardson Jaussi, age 88, died February 20, 2023, in Sandy, Utah, of incidents due to her age. She was born August 4, 1934, in Longview, Washington, a daughter of Bertram Haldon Richardson and Laurice Burch Richardson. She spent her early years on her parents' dairy farm in the West Valley of Skamokawa, Washington.
She married August Wilhelm Jaussi of Paris, Idaho, on December 23, 1955, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. August died July 15, 2022, in St. George, Utah. During the early years of their marriage they lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where her husband was associated with Oklahoma State University.
Prior to her marriage, she completed a B.S. degree in Microbiology from Brigham Young
University. She was a Registered Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and received her training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She was employed as a medical technologist at Oklahoma State School of Veterinary Medicine before retiring to become a full-time wife and mother.
In 1962, the family moved to Provo, Utah, when her husband accepted a teaching position at Brigham Young University. In 1964, they purchased a home in Orem, Utah, and resided in Orem for 58 years.
After returning to Provo, she received an A.S. degree in Genealogical Research from Brigham
Young University. She was an Accredited Genealogist for England with the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. She was a specialist in records of the State of Utah and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her most recent publication was Genealogy Fundamentals, a textbook and reference for beginning genealogists.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in leadership and teaching positions. Serving in a BYU Stake, she and her husband established a continuing genealogy workshop that served university students. They also served a Family and Church History mission in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Haldon and Julie Jaussi of Sandy Utah; Susan and Scot Westover of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Kurt and Susan Jaussi of Riverton, Utah; Clayton and Simone Jaussi of West Haven, Utah; Paul and Laura Jaussi of St. George, Utah; and Laura and Brian Whiting of Hillsboro, Oregon. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Karen (Floyd) Tarbet and Gail (Denton) Barney. She was preceded in death by a sister Judith Garrison.
The funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Sharon 2nd Ward building located at 641 S 400 E, Orem, Utah, under the direction of Bishop Brett Andrus. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery at 1520 N 800 E. Orem. Laureen's funeral service will be broadcast live (webcast) at Walker-Sanderson.com.
