Lauri Lin Morley McPhillen, 68, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 10, 2026, returning to her Heavenly Home after a life filled with faith, love, service, and devotion to Jesus Christ. Born on February 12, 1958, in Logan, Utah, to Brent Morley and Vicki Trimm, Lauri lived with a bright spirit, a love of learning, and a remarkable ability to touch the lives of those around her.
Throughout her life, Lauri called several places home, including Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Irvine and Santa Barbara, California; and Orem, Utah. Wherever life took her, she had a wonderful ability to make friends and form meaningful connections. She touched countless lives through her kindness, her faith, and the genuine love she showed to others. Those who knew Lauri will remember her warmth, her friendship, and the lasting impression she left wherever she went.
Lauri was a lifelong learner who valued education, curiosity, and personal growth. She earned a Master of Business Administration from Brigham Young University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, Irvine. She spent much of her professional career working on college campuses, where she especially enjoyed the atmosphere of learning and the vibrant energy of young people preparing for their futures. She appreciated being surrounded by people who were continually learning, growing, and discovering new possibilities, reflecting her own enthusiasm for education and personal development.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lauri faithfully served in many callings throughout her life, including Relief Society president, Primary president, Young Women president, Relief Society teacher, and Primary teacher. Of all her opportunities to serve, she especially cherished teaching children about Jesus Christ. Her testimony of the Savior was not simply something she shared in words, but something she demonstrated through her kindness, compassion, and willingness to serve others. Her faith was a guiding influence throughout her life and a source of strength during her greatest challenges.
In July 2022, Lauri received a breast cancer diagnosis that began a difficult and emotional chapter in her life. She faced the challenges of her illness with remarkable courage, grace, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Throughout her treatment, she was deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support she received from the doctors, nurses, and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Their dedication and kindness were a meaningful source of comfort to her and her family.
Lauri always believed she could beat cancer, but to her, beating cancer meant something more profound than simply surviving the disease. It meant living each day to the fullest, finding joy and purpose despite uncertainty, and refusing to allow her diagnosis to define who she was or what she could do. She continued to love her family fiercely, nurture friendships, share her faith, and embrace the life she had been given. Even in the face of hardship, she chose to live with gratitude, determination, and trust in the Lord. By her own understanding of what it meant to overcome cancer, Lauri beat cancer every day.
Among the many places Lauri loved, the mountains held a particularly special place in her heart. She found peace, happiness, and renewal in their beauty, especially at Sundance, Utah. It was her favorite place on earth, aside from being surrounded by her beloved family and friends. The mountains offered her a place for reflection and a reminder of the beauty and blessings of life.
Lauri's greatest legacy is found not only in her accomplishments, but in the countless lives she touched and the love she shared so freely. She will be remembered for her enduring faith, her strength through adversity, her love of learning, and her devotion to the people who mattered most to her. Though her passing brings profound sadness, her example of courage, compassion, and joyful perseverance will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
Lauri is survived by Ammon McPhillen, daughter Felicia Stacey, son Jared McPhillen, son-in-law Matthew Stacey, grandchildren Eliza Stacey and Lucas Stacey, father Brent Morley, and sister Jennifer Pratt.
Her family finds comfort in the Savior's promise:
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." — Matthew 25:21
