IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laurie Gedicks
Bevan
April 2, 1961 – February 2, 2025
Laurie Gedicks Bevan died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 2, 2024, from the effects of myotonic dystrophy, a form of muscular dystrophy which she battled most of her adult life.
Laurie was born April 2, 1961, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, near her parents' home in Haddonfield. She was the youngest of four children, and five years younger than her next oldest sibling.
In 1964, Laurie moved with her family to southern California. She attended elementary and middle school in Rolling Hills Estates and took Scottish Highland dancing lessons and participated in competitions. She attended Rolling Hills High School until 1977, when she and her family moved to Mesa, Arizona. She finished at Mountain View High School in Mesa where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1979. Laurie attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and later Mesa Community College, where she earned an associates degree.
Laurie married Myrl Lewis Bevan April 12, 1996, in the Jordan River Temple in South Jordan, Utah. They had a long and happy marriage. Laurie adored Myrl; he cared for her as her health deteriorated and loved her four children from a prior marriage as if they were his own.
Laurie was a voracious reader and loved games. Like her mother, she was a great cook. She was also gifted in math, working many years as a bookkeeper for local businesses.
Laurie loved her children deeply; they never doubted that love and commitment. She was an unwavering member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and actively participated in Church services and activities when her health permitted. She never complained about her condition and faced her many challenges in life with courage, determination, and acceptance.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Myrl; her children, John Tyler, Ashley Elizabeth, Jared Thomas, and Katie Ann Edwards; a grandchild, Savannah Lee Edwards; two siblings, Frederick Mark Gedicks and Robin Gedicks Christiansen, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Henry Gedicks, Jr. and Shirley Alexia Bigney Gedicks; her older sister, Nancy Gedicks Boynton; and two nephews, Alexander Philip Gedicks and Blake Sinclair Boynton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pilgrims Landing 3rd Ward building, 3145 West Mayflower Avenue, in Lehi, Utah. Friends and family may visit before the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
