Obituary

Lee Taylor Cox, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away

peacefully on January 22, 2025. Dad was born on May 1, 1929 in Provo, Utah, the second son of

Orville Stanely Cox and Alice Richards Taylor. Dad was the third of five children. Dad attended

Provo High School, and Brigham Young University. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus

Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canadian Mission. Upon his return from his mission, Dad

finished his studies at Brigham Young University, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in

chemistry. During his time at Brigham Young University, he met Lorna Bringhurst. Mom and

Dad were married on June 27, 1953 in the St. George LDS Temple while Lee was on a weekend

pass from the military.

During Mom and Dad's marriage, they lived in Tumwater, Washington; Provo, Utah; Ames,

Iowa; Seattle, Washington; Midland, Michigan; West Valley City, Utah; and Provo, Utah. Amid

these many travels, three sons and two daughters became a part of the family.

Dad had many jobs during his life. These included working as a chemist, teaching chemistry and

physics at colleges in Michigan, running his own business doing water testing, and eventually

working at Dugway Proving Grounds, where he retired from work. Dad was an active member of

the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He frequently

worked with the Boy Scouts of America program, served as ward chorister and other priesthood

callings. Dad served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple for 20 years.

Dad also loved and was actively involved in genealogy. After Dad's retirement, he and Mom spent

several years traveling to many destinations: Europe, the Polynesian Islands,

Tahiti, Canada, Mexico, San Francisco, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii.

Dad is survived by his five children: Fred (Cathie) Cox; Jenette (Scott) Peterson; Kevin Cox;

Lorene Nordgran; Paul (Kesha) Cox, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl

Cox, and sisters, Alta Wetzker and Louise Harmon. He was preceded in death by his eternal

companion, Lorna, and his oldest sister, Nancy MacKay. We will miss Dad, but we know he is

having a beautiful reunion with our Mother and many family members who went before him. We

are grateful to be an eternal family, and we know that we will see him again.
