Obituary

LeGrand Hanks Jackman LeGrand Hanks Jackman received an unexpected assignment Tuesday, and, as was his usual pattern, he "dropped everything and ran" to the call. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away of natural causes on the afternoon of July 25, 2017 at his home in Lindon. Dad was born on April 30, 1940 in Payson, Utah to Golden & Teton Jackman. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier for two years. He graduated from BYU in public speaking in 1970, six weeks before the birth of his third child. After serving an LDS mission for two and a half years in Norway, he used his missionary and tracting skills to find his sweetheart, Judith Ann Parker at her dorm on BYU campus. They were sealed for time and eternity nine weeks later in the Los Angeles Temple on January 30, 1964. Even though their courtship was short, Dad always said he knew he was led by the Spirit to our dear, sweet Mother. We are forever grateful for that. Dad made everyone who knew him want to be better. He served and loved all he met. Dad was a man truly without guile. He was ever peaceful and kind; we never saw his feathers ruffled. He always concerned himself for the welfare of others more than for himself. We loved his clever wit and his cute grin-his super handsome attractive smile- when he knew he had said or done something truly witty and he just couldn't help but smile to himself. We absolutely love that smile. It melts our hearts. For the last three and a half years, following a freak accident, Dad's eldest daughter, our sweet Cindy, has laid in a persistent vegetative state. Dad has faithfully accompanied her dear husband Carl in regular visits to Riverton to see her. In honor of her, we add what we believe would be her words at this time. "My precious Daddy-O meant the world to me. He is my hero and the most pure and perfect man I've ever known." We agree. Dad always said that if he could only teach us one thing, it would be how to recognize the promptings of the Spirit and to always be worthy to receive personal revelation. He taught us that we will get through the difficult times and come out winners, making lemonade from lemons. One of Dad's favorite things to do was listen to his family gathered around the piano singing. He loved attending the temple together as a family. He is survived by his sweetheart Judy, his children and their spouses: Cindy & Carl Tiede, Sherri & Darrell Judkins, Scott & Melody Jackman, Mark Jackman, Amy & Dan Wager, David & Angie Jackman. He was adored by his 34 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Two more great-grandchildren are expected this fall. He is also survived by his brothers Elden (LaDawn) Jackman, Gene (Helen) Jackman, and sisters Flora (Doug) Harrington and Alona (Ed) Veatch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Golden & Teton Jackman, his parents in law, Don & Leah Parker, his Angel Baby Julie and his brother Nolan. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 29, 2017, 11:00 a.m. in the Lindon 11th Ward, 1050 East 100 North, Lindon. Family and friends may visit Friday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, or Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery.
