LEILA IRMELI MORRIS Our dear mom, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Leila Ritva Irmeli (Antsola) Morris passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday morning May 26th, 2018. Mom was a woman of great faith. She often shared her testimony and love of her Savior with others. She was born in Antrea, Finland (a town that has been on the Russian side of the border since WW2) on the 31st of March 1935 to Johan Arvi Antsola and Kerttu Aleksandra Ajo Antsola. At the tender age of 6 years old her mother Kerttu died, so she was raised by her loving grandmother Aleksandra (Sanni) Ajo, due to her father (a captain in the Finnish army) often being away on duty. She attended schools in Toijala and Laihia Finland. She loved paddling their row boat across the lake to her grandmother's summer home on an island, and spoke of the lip/lap sound of the water under the boat and the peace she felt there. She was involved in girl scouts, and enjoyed ice skating, playing with her cousins, and cross country skiing through the forests in Finland. Mom worked for 5 years in an architect office in Helsinki, joined the LDS church in April 1954 and served a fulltime mission for the church in her native Finland 1957-58. She was leading the YW's mutual program for the church there. She came to America in 1959 to visit her sister Lea who had previously come to live here, and that's when she met Lee J. Morris from Heber City, Utah, on Christmas Eve 1959. She attended BYU for 2 semesters until she married Lee in the Salt Lake Temple Nov. 11, 1960. They moved to Logan, where our dad (Lee) graduated from Utah State University. They have two children, Bryan (Susan) Morris of Orem, Ut., and Carolyn (Craig) Harvey of Lindon, Ut. Mom loved animals, children, art, cards & letters, reading, watching BYU sports (especially when they won!), attending plays, knitting (she won 1st prize at the state fair for a sweater she made), cooking, baking, and quilting. She made countless lap covers for the humanitarian services for people in wheelchairs, and slippers for family and friends. Her most recent slippers were tiny white ones worn by her 5th great-grandchild at her baby blessing in May. She often shared her baked goods with neighbors and family members. If she was making lasagna for example, she would make two of them so she had one to give to us. Mom served in most of the church's auxiliary organizations where her motto was always "nobody but nobody can fight against love forever". She truly cared about those with whom she associated. Mom very much enjoyed her wonderful neighbors, being in the Orem Women's Club, and Finnish Club where she was able to be among others locally, who loved and missed Finland as much as she did! She is survived by her 2 children and their spouses, 3 grandsons (Tyler, Kyle and Jared) and their spouses Alicia, Aubrey and Jaden. 5 little great-grandchildren; Addison, Reagan, Paxton, Hudson, and Quinn. All of whom she absolutely adored! She was proceeded in death by her parents, stepmother Tyyne Antsola, husband Lee Morris, sister Lea (& Steve) Mahoney, brother in-law Matti Jama, sister in-law Aileen (& Howard) Norton, brother in-law Bob (& Bonnie) Morris, and many other dear friends and relatives. She is survived by her younger sister Marita Jama of Kupio, Finland, nieces Sanni, Jenni & Oona, and neices and nephews on the Morris and Mahoney side. It's kind of ironic that a woman with such a big heart as our moms (whose focus was always on others) would loose her life due to heart failure. A heart condition which she developed in her 20's didn't slow her down much for 60 years, and for that we are grateful. Our appreciation to the ambulance crew, Ut. Valley Hospital and ICU staff for their help on Mother's Day, and for Brighton Hospice and "Visiting Angels" for their care and kindness during moms last week. Funeral services under the direction of Walker-Sanderson will be Friday, June 1st, 11am at Sharon Stake Center 545 S. 800 E. in Orem. Viewings are Thursday, May 31st 6-8pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home 646 E. 800 N. Orem, and Friday before the funeral, 9:30-10:30am at the church. Interment in the Heber City Cemetery.
