Loving mother, Lela May Scott Aston (91) passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Cascade rehab center in Orem. She was born on November 6, 1931 to Arthur and Mary Scott in Nephi, Utah. She had two brothers and one sister that died in their infancy plus an adopted sister, Mildred. She married Keith Aston on June 27, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Keith and Lela lived in Indianola, Ogden, Nephi and Logan before they built their home on Grandview Hill in Provo in 1960. Keith passed away in 2005, and Lela stayed in their home until 2019, when she moved into the Seville, an independent living center in Orem.

Lela's life was centered in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in trying to live the teachings of Jesus Christ. She served in many callings throughout her life, one being a mission with Keith in Dallas, Texas in 1990-91. They enjoyed their mission and were sad they had to leave early due to Keith's diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease. She also served a mission to the BYU Movie Studios after Keith's death.

Lela spent tremendous amounts of time in her life gathering and organizing information, stories, and pictures of ancestors. After Keith died, she filled her hours indexing names to be added to Family Search. In all, she indexed around 826,000 names.

Over the years, Lela expertly made over 500 wedding cakes. Each was intricately designed with delicate frosting and floral designs. She was also a talented quilter and made around 120 unique and beautiful quilts including a personalized one for each of her children and grandchildren.

After Keith's retirement, they purchased a motorhome and started a Good Sams group. They traveled all over enjoying friends and beautiful places for many years.

For the last 20 years of her life, she suffered bravely with a broken back and disc degeneration. Despite the constant pain she felt, she remained determined to do the Lord's work and lift and love those around her. Her mind remained alert and clear until her passing. She loved people and made many friends throughout her life. Many people at the Seville expressed appreciation for her friendship and love.

One of Lela's greatest accomplishments was raising a loving family. Lela loved her family and was intent on helping them remain close and feel love for each other. To this day, the family remains close thanks to all her efforts.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Susan and Gaius Crosby, Kevin and Wendy Aston, Lee and Pamala Aston, Sharon and Val Groo, and Vernon and Jennifer Aston, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thurs. October 5th, at the church at 114 S. 400 W., Orem, Utah with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. before the funeral. Interment will be held at the Provo City Cemetery.
