Leo A. Weidner was called by many names in his 87 years. He was first called "Son" on June 12th, 1934, when he was born to his parents Francis & Leo E. Weidner. Then, "Big Brother and Protector" by his younger siblings: Steve, Roger and Bruce.
Leo was a devoted "Dad" to 5 children by birth: Leo, Erin, Amber, Tiffany and Trevor and 6 children by marriage: Mike, Rob, Kent, Steve, Carla and Rick. He was called "Papa LAW" by 21 grandchildren: Nicole, Maggie, Lance, Shannon, Rickie, Aliyah, Samson, Titania, Penelope, Nikita, Sidney, MacKenna, Kris, Sarah, Carly, Craig, Eric, Adam, Ashley, Luke and Taylor and later "Great- Papa LAW" by his 12 great-grandchildren. He was also "Favorite Uncle" to many of the children of his beloved brothers.
He was called the "Rose Prince" in his native Portland, Oregon before joining his father and being called a "Fireman". He was a "Seaman" aboard a submarine in the Korean war before heading to BYU where he was "Class President".
In the 1960's, Napoleon Hill, the father of self-improvement called him 'colleague and friend' before charging him with developing the tools to implement his groundbreaking ideas. Leo took this challenge very seriously. Since the 1970's, nearly 3000 clients have called him "Coach". Amazon.com credits him as "...probably the country's first personal coach". To the Mountain West chapter of the National Speakers Association, he was "Founder and President". In the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he's the "MTV Bishop". In the bookstore, he's known as the successful "Author" of two books: Achieving the Balance and The Slight Edge.
His love for the Gospel led him to move to Provo Utah where, for the past 40 years, thousands of young people passing through BYU and the MTC have called him "Bishop". Many of them also came to call him "Matchmaker" after he successfully connected kindred souls through his uncanny knack for understanding the hearts of those he led.
On June 14th, 2021, 87 years almost to the day after entering this world, Leo A. Weidner left it to join his beloved son, Trevor, who died last June and his three adored brothers, two of whom passed away in the last forty days.
Leo Weidner was a man who filled the world with his positivity, a man who was devoted to leaving the world better than he found it. He was an inspirational father, coach and mentor who opened his heart to both his family of blood and those he connected to through wisdom, faith, respect and a mutual desire to improve the human condition.
But his most cherished title was "Husband" to Shirley, his sweetheart and wife of 46 years, for whom, I am certain, he is already impatiently waiting at the pearly gates.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 2:30 - 3:15 pm at the LDS chapel located at 4220 Foothill Drive, Provo. Funeral Services will follow at 3:30 pm. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
