Obituary

Lloyd Lee Barker

1930-1924

Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather departed for heaven on August 15, 2024. What a joyous occasion for Lloyd and Philys, as that is her earthly birthday. Lloyd was born on August 19, 1930 to Lee and Mardene Barker in Fairview Utah. As a young boy his family traveled to various job sites throughout the west. As WWII approached they settled in Provo, UT. After from graduating from Provo High Lloyd attended Utah State University. While at USU he got his pilot license. On March 29, 1951 Lloyd and Philys were married for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. A few days later he shipped out for Camp Roberts for basic training. He always said he only made it possible for Philys to raise their children. But we all agree he was a vital part of that process. He raised four children: Michael (Marilyn), Cherrie Evans, Mary Barker and Samuel Kelly. He has 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Lloyd wore many hats as he worked to support his family. At Geneva Steel he worked in their environmental green houses, with University of Utah engineers, for several years where they conducted research on air, water and soil pollutants generated by the plant. When the greenhouses were closed he worked in their general maintenance department purchasing the supplies to make the steel. During this time he also was a sign painter, house painter, farmer, wood worker, Gatling gun maker and machinist. As a young man he helped his father-in-law build a motel and home. As the needs of others would arise he helped to build many other homes for family members. Eventually he built the home that his family lived in. Lloyd spent 55 years working within the Boy Scouts program. He worked with all of the age groups within scouting and at the height of his Scouting career he was working as a district leader for the Squaw Peak District. He earned the Silver Beaver award and the Baden Powell award for his service. He loved tinkering with his old cars. Many enjoyed the thrill of a ride in the old Model T. His work shop was always filled with several projects. He could make or repair just about anything. His knowledge was shared generously with others and we all learned so many things from him. He taught by example and with love. His love, knowledge and service will be missed by all that were blessed to have known him.
