Obituary

Lore Hertha Baer Bonds passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on September 9, 1933, in Nuremberg, Germany, she was the only child of Otto Johann and Ella Radau Baer.

Lore's remarkable life began in post-war Germany, where she learned the values of resilience, gratitude, and faith—qualities that would shape her character and legacy. It was in Nuremberg that she met a young American soldier, Royce M. Bonds, stationed there with the U.S. Army. Their meeting was the beginning of a lifelong love story. They married on April 7, 1956, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and began their life together in Florida before settling in Southern California. On May 25, 1963, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They raised a family of six children—five sons and one daughter—creating a home filled with love, discipline, and deep devotion to one another.

In 1991, Lore and Royce retired to Provo, Utah, where they enjoyed the changing seasons and the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. Lore especially loved her daily walks, the fresh mountain air, and her small community of family and friends—including many fellow German immigrants—who had also made their home in the Salt Lake area.

Lore was a woman of quiet strength, deep spirituality, and unwavering faith. Her relationship with God was central to her life, and she found great joy in serving in the Provo Temple. Lore generously gave to her community by volunteering at local elementary schools and exemplified respectful and engaged citizenship throughout her life. Her greatest calling, however, was motherhood. She led her family by example—teaching her children to be hardworking, honest, and responsible. The hardships of her early years instilled in her a lasting appreciation for the simple blessings of life, a lesson she steadily passed on to future generations.

Though Lore is no longer with us, her voice lives on through the stories and reflections she carefully recorded in journals over the years—an enduring gift to her family.

She is survived by her children: Thomas (Mirashon), Robert (Cathie), Carole Taylor (Rick), Royce (Leigh), David (Sherri), and Kurt (Natalie); along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to be inspired by her faith and strength.

Lore was cremated and will be laid to rest beside her beloved Royce at Elysian Burial Gardens in Salt Lake City.
