Lyle Morley Thomson, 66, of American Fork, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at Stonehenge of American Fork. Lyle was born on December 27, 1957, in Salt Lake City to Lowell Dee and Ruth Elaine Morley Thomson, and was the seventh of ten children.
A devoted professional, Lyle dedicated his career to public service. After graduating from Orem High School in 1976, he then studied Applied Health Science at Weber State University and completed their paramedic program. His career spanned various roles at Orem City, where he worked as a firefighter, police officer, and paramedic. Lyle's true passion was firefighting, and he proudly served as a Captain until his retirement in 2002. Additionally, he worked at Geneva Steel on his days off, showcasing his tireless work ethic and commitment to his community.
Lyle's love for service extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid runner, completing numerous marathons, and he was a devoted fan of BYU football and the Kansas City Chiefs. Known for his culinary enthusiasm, Lyle spent his last day enjoying McDonald's French fries, a testament to his simple joys in life.
Family was at the heart of Lyle's existence. He cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. His life was filled with grand adventures, playful moments, and cherished memories, from playing cards and watching football to his legendary Tecmo Bowl victories. Lyle was known for his great dad jokes, catchphrases, and entertaining stories from his work, which endeared him to many.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Lowell Thomson; his twin sister, Laurie Jemison; his sister, Lisa Benson; and his grandson, Ryder Cannon. He is survived by his siblings, Greg (Jeanne) Thomson, Cindy (Robert) Harding, Karna (Gary) Buckner, Kim (Tamara) Thomson, Nancy (Patrick) Briggs, Tammy (Rob) Rokosz, and David (Kendra) Thomson; his children, Jessie (Sam) Cannon, Adam (Sandy) Thomson, and Ashlie Thomson; and his beloved grandchildren, Cadence Cannon, Cassie Thomson, Addie Cannon, Peter Thomson, Talon Cannon, and William Thomson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, September 20th at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, located at 646 E. 800 N. in Orem. Family time will be at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12:00 pm. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.walkersanderson.com.
