IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn Matt
Curry
April 7, 1934 – August 26, 2023
Mapleton, Utah - In the early morning hours of August 26, 2023, Lynn Matt Curry, age 89, passed peacefully from this world to meet his loving wife in time for their anniversary. He was born in Hanna, Utah on April 7, 1934 to Oran Earl and Vida Paramore Curry. He graduated valedictorian, captain of the basketball team, student body president, and member of the band from Tabiona High School class of 1952. Lynn married the love of his life, LaRena Nye Curry, on August 28, 1954 in Duchesne, UT (later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple). They were blessed with 6 beautiful children, 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Lynn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings which he loved. He spent most of his life in the construction trades. Things the family are most proud of is the work he did on the Marriot Center, Cottonwood Hospital, the St. George Temple in the 1970s, and of course, the installation of the Tidal Wave at Lagoon. Lynn had a beautiful tenor singing voice. He sang in ward choirs and was a member of a barbershop quartet as a young father. His favorite hobby was working in his yard. He created meticulous and beautiful spaces surrounding each of the homes in which he lived. He was a caretaker and found great happiness in serving others and taking care of those in need. His gentle and intuitive nature helped him form deep connections with others. Lynn was known for his sense of style. Dapper is the word that comes to mind when we think of his well pressed clothing and distinguished silver hair. After retirement, Lynn and LaRena moved to their dream home in Washington, Utah. They spent their time traveling with friends, enjoying nature, and hosting family parties. We will miss his unparalleled support, warm embraces, homemade root beer, dry wit, loving wisdom, and never failing kindness.
Lynn is survived by his children: Donna Leavitt, Gayle Sandquist, Ken (Tracie) Curry, Rachel (Benita) Curry, and Karen (Jason) Kidd, 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Vivian Curry, brother-in-law Ross (Brenda) Mallet, brother-in-law Carl (Louise) Nye, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his sweet wife LaRena, parents, daughter Debra Kay Curry, son-in-law Greg Sandquist, and siblings Glenna (Andrew) Johnson, Joe Curry, LaRae (Craig) Wilcken, Ed (Elna) Curry, and Patsy Mallet.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the management, staff, and residents of Spring Gardens Living Facility Mapleton. The last year and a half of his life has been full of new friendships and fond memories. We would also like to recognize Holly Carter NP, Bonnie Ballard RN, and iCare Hospice for the loving way they helped us all work through the final weeks of his life.
