IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn Davis
Larson
May 24, 1943 – September 19, 2023
Lynn Davis Larson 1943-2023
Lynn Davis Larson, age 80, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Spring Hollow Assisted Living and Memory Center in Orem, Utah, where he had resided only a short time.
Lynn arrived with his mischievous smile on May 24, 1943, in Burley, Idaho, the second child of eight who were blessed to have Floyd Davis Larson and Marva Fae Smith as parents.
Lynn learned hard work on the farm, where he loved spending time with family, gardening, and caring for the animals. In the summers, he worked as a beekeeper. His mother said he had a special aptitude for "getting into mischief." He had the gift of gab and really enjoyed socializing and participating in scouts, dance, the thespian club, chorus, sharpshooting, archery, hunting, hiking, rappelling, fishing, and camping. Lynn loved music and participated in band and orchestra. He played the trombone, the harmonica, the flute, the guitar, and dabbled with many other instruments. He was in the science club and was an exchange student.
After graduating from Burley High in 1961, he served a mission from September 1961 to March 1965 in Sweden, where he gained a deep love of family history and serving his brothers and sisters.
He entered Brigham Young University in the fall of 1965 studying geology. However, he later changed his major to Elementary Education with a science minor because of his love of children and his desire to help other people. While at BYU, he met and became engaged to Linda Lane Kiesel in December of 1965. They were married for eternity the next spring on May 3, 1966, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Lynn had a wonderful sense of humor, and Linda said he liked to "kid around." Lynn was a devoted father to his four children, serving them with love and kindness. He has inspired our lives in so many ways. He is our hero.
Lynn and Linda both worked while attending BYU, and they eventually bought a home in Orem. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in August 1968 and began teaching at Timpanogos Elementary School in the fall of 1968. He started teaching 6th graders but later switched to the 3rd and 4th grades. He served as the school science, computer, and technology specialists. He received awards such as KSL's "Teacher of the Day" and the PTA "Golden Apple Award." He had professional memberships in the NEA, UEA, PEA Teachers Association, and Utah Science Teachers Association. Lynn was also a faculty representative for 6 years and a data facilitator for 3 years. He taught his students to love science and nature.
In August of 1983, he received his Master of Education degree from BYU.
When school was out during the summers, he worked in outdoor education, building homes, and collecting seeds for the Division of Wildlife and US Forest Service.
In April of 1996, he became a realtor, using his love of people to help many find the perfect place to call home. He enjoyed helping others with their homes. He helped build rooms, install plumbing, and helped neighbors replace their roofs. As a jack of all trades, he could figure out how to do most things with enough time.
His love of learning led him to return to school at Utah Valley University, where he received COMPTIA hardware/software certification and a Novell CNA (Certified Network Assistant).
Lynn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed serving as a Deacon, Priest, Elder, Seventy, a High Priest and a ward Family History Specialist. He also served many years as Ward Clerk. He taught groups of scouts how to tie flies for fishing. Recently he served by ensuring the font was filled and ready for baptisms and then cleaning it afterward. He leaves us with his testimony regarding our loving Heavenly Parents and their Son, Jesus Christ.
Lynn lovingly cared for his wife during her health struggles from 2010 until she passed in 2019.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2023, at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1450 S. 800 E. Orem, UT.
