Obituary

Mabel "Claudine" Stoner Messenger, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, and great-grandma passed away on October 2, 2023.

Claudine was born on July 25,1932 on a dry farm in south western Kansas during the great "Dust Bowl Days". She was born to Galen Harold and Emma Fanny Stoner in Morton County, Kansas.

The family moved to a ranch on the plains in eastern Colorado in 1942 when she was 10 years old. Her family included 2 older sisters, Maxine and Carolyn, and a younger brother, Ronald (her only surviving sibling). They were 30 miles from a town and 50 miles from a high school.

Claudine thought it was fabulous but her sisters thought it was the end of the world. Claudine was a tomboy and preferred to do outside chores over anything inside.

Living too far from town, during high school she lived with a family in Stratton where she worked for her room and board. Claudine started

dating her best friend's older brother, Clifford Messenger, in her junior year. He had just returned home from the Navy. She graduated the end of May 1950 and married Clifford on the 4th of June at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Stratton, CO.

By 1956 they had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado with 2 little boys, Kent and Neil. There they added 2 daughters, Lucy and Sally, and the youngest son, Ira.

They raised their family there until Cliff and Claudine moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1979, where Ira finished high school.

Claudine was very involved with the development of the Genealogical Library and worked extensively on family history the rest of her life. With 3 sons and a husband involved in Scouting and several years of Girls Camp with 2 daughters, camping, hiking, and jeeping in the Colorado Rockies became the favorite family vacation.

She had a soft spoken personality, yet she could command respect with a look. By her example she instilled in her children a desire to follow Christ. She was a voracious reader, and through her example, taught all of her children to develop a passion for reading, and an appreciation for history.

Claudine was a exceptional mother, mother-in-law, grandma and greatgrandma. She was and always will be the glue the keeps the family

together. She exuded patience, tolerance, compassion, faith, and loyalty.

She joins her husband, Clifford, and her two oldest sons, Kent and Neil Messenger in paradise.

Claudine leaves a legacy of 3 children; Lucy, Sally (Bryan) Girts, and Ira (Karen); 2 daughter-in-laws, Jane Ann (Kent) and Debra (Neil); 18

grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren so far…
