Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Smith went home on August 27, 2020 surrounded by family, loved ones and beloved pooches at her home in Orem, UT. Peggy as she was known to all, was born Margaret Catherine Boise at home in Carlisle PA on April 20, 1937 to parents Theodore and Violet Boise. She was their 4th child and 3rd girl. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith, parents, Theodore and Violet Boise, brother Edward Boise and sister Gloria Wynn. She is survived by her sons, Ben Heishman, John Heishman, her daughters, Michelle Heishman, Mary Clark, and Margaret (Meg) Pettingill, four beloved grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her sister Middie Magleby, brother Tom Boise and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was a beautiful girl and loved theater and acting when she was young. She grew up in Carlisle and moved to Mechanicsburg, PA where she raised her children with her first husband. Peggy and her family moved to Florida in the 70's and after a family divorce, she met her husband, Bill Smith. Peggy and Bill as they were known, spent more than 25 years traveling the United States driving a "big rig". Peggy was one of the first female truckers, traveling more than 3 million miles, earning herself a membership in the "Million Mile Club" and was the "walking road map" when she would come home from their travels. After "retirement" from the road, Peggy was drawn to children. She decided in her 60's that she wanted to drive a School bus. She spent a short time at Alpine School District, but Provo Schools is where she found her home and was awarded Bus Driver of the Year during her 15-year tenure there. She adored the people she worked with and they in turn adored her. She was a dear friend, respected by her colleagues and adored by her "kids" as she would call them. Peggy retired in January 2020 at 82. Shortly thereafter, due to a back injury she was seen for, it was discovered she was ill and passed within 6 months of her cancer diagnosis. Peggy was the quintessential "lady". She was stronger than most of us ever knew and made a huge impact on the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Peggy was a great friend to everyone who knew her. Whether she was being an extended mom, grandma, friend, or whatever role she played in your life, she left a mark. She was dearly loved & will be sadly missed by all.
