IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margrit Anna
Newsome
July 17, 1929 – January 31, 2023
Anna Erna Margrit Hartmann (affectionately known as Omi) - beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many - passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in Provo, Utah at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones, after a long and meaningful life on earth.
Daughter of Albert Ernst Hartmann and Maria Becker, Margrit was born on July 17, 1929 in Kassel, Germany. She lived through incredibly oppressive times in Germany, experiencing much heartache and upheaval, but also enjoying many happy memories with her grandmother, Anna Becker, and her mother and sisters. She met her husband, Hansel Azor Franklin, in Germany during his service in the U.S. military. They married in Witzenhausen, Germany. Papa Hansel and Omi moved to the United States to begin their family in the late 40's.
Omi was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived her life serving others. Thomas S. Monson said, "Unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives." Omi's life was overflowing with purpose, from mothering her children, grandchildren, and countless foster children, to serving in many positions in the church. She was a woman of courage and faith. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and testified of Him until the end of her life.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Hansel, son Stormy, and daughters, Ingrid, Sandra, and Ronda.
She leaves behind her sons, Siegfred, Randolf, Justin, and daughters, Angela and Luann, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. In total, Omi's posterity surpasses 85, each one dearly loved by her.
Margrit will be buried at the Eastlawn Memorial Hills in Provo, Utah.
Donations towards flowers for the service can be sent to Margrit's granddaughter, Monica Brown. Her Venmo account is @Monica-Brown-140 and her email address is monicadb267@gmail.com
