Obituary

Marilyn McEntire Curtis

Our beautiful mother, Marilyn McEntire Curtis, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2024 at the age of 94. She was surrounded by her family who loved her very dearly. We have had her example of faith to lean on.

Marilyn was born November 19, 1929 in Rexburg, Idaho to Sara Ann Zollinger and Raymond Eli McEntire. Marilyn was the youngest of 6 children. She was a surprise baby and became the apple in everyone's eye. Marilyn loved living in Rexburg with her extended family nearby. She was proud to tell us that she got her drivers license at age 12. Marilyn was a good driver and loved to help anyone who needed a ride anywhere.

Marilyn graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho and attended Rick's College. At age 21 Marilyn moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to find a job. This was a big move for a country girl. Marilyn found a great job at Freed Finance and enjoyed the people and experience. Her boss, our Uncle Dan, lined her up with his brother Max R. Curtis. Marilyn said she enjoyed dating Max right from the start. She said he made her laugh. Marilyn never dated anyone else after dating him. They were engaged within 3 months and married in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 27, 1951. They were blessed to celebrate 66 years together.

They moved to Orem, Utah so Max could continue his work at the Geneva Steel Plant.

Together they raised 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl. Marilyn and Max created a home filled with love, laugher, and security. All felt welcomed who entered their home.

Marilyn had many talents which she shared freely. She was a beautiful seamstress, loved music, sang alto and joined the Shauntenells Choir, joined book clubs, could cook the best meal out of nothing, loved to try her hand at oil painting. Loved bowling and golfing. Marilyn loved a house of order and enlisted all the children to help.

Marilyn loved serving in her many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as the Ward Relief Society President, Ward Primary President, Stake Primary 2nd Councilor, librarian, and her favorite as a ministering sister.

Marilyn and Max loved to travel with their many wonderful friends. One of their most favorite trips was to Europe. They loved to take their trailer to see the many places in the States.

Marilyn and Max served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Toronto, Canada Temple. They loved their service and the people there. Marilyn started working at Desert Book Company at the age of 75 for 5 years. She loved every minute of it.

Marilyn is survived by her children Steven (Betty Ann), Michael (Dawn), Deborah (Don), Ronald (Laurel) and Bryan (Lisa). She was preceded in death by her husband Max R. Curtis, and her siblings, Afton, Elma, Nolan, Marjorie and Reed. Max and Marilyn were been blessed with a wonderful posterity of 23 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren.

We love and miss you already. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for creating a legacy of love for all your posterity to follow.
