Mariner "Lyn" Ballard
Lyn was born on May 18, 1947, to Gwen Oyler Ballard and Mariner Bain Ballard in Tremonton, Utah. He was the second of four children. He attended grade school there until "Grandpa" bought a ranch in Montana in 1957. They had a home in Dillon and the ranch was on the East Bench in Madison County.
Lyn attended schools in Dillon and graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1966. He was very active in sports-mainly football and wrestling. He was a part of many State Championships.
DeeAnn was three years behind him in school. As good friends Lyn would always sit behind her in Study Hall. After high school, Lyn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission in Arizona. He came to love the Lamanites there. After Lyn's mission, he went to college in Bozeman, Montana studying Animal Husbandry. Frequent letter writing with DeeAnn brought them together again.
On November 5, 1971, Lyn and DeeAnn were married for Time and all Eternity in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They spent 50 beautiful years together as husband and wife and best friends. Five children blessed their lives: Cory Lyn, Jennifer Dee, Shanna Lee, Brent Dean and Jackie DeLyn.
Lyn continued ranching with his dad and brother Michael in Dillon, Judith Gap, and Twin Bridges, Montana. Lyn served in many callings in the church, including Elder's Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Councilor in the Bishopric, Ward Mission Leader, and High Councilman. In his last few years, he indexed over 8000 names for the church in the Family Search Program.
Lyn is survived by his "Love", DeeAnn Wright Ballard, Cory Lyn (Rachelle), Jennifer Dee Whitmire (Michael), Shanna Lee Morgan (Ryan), Brent Dean (Mindy) and Jackie DeLyn
Burgio (Andy) and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Mariner Bain and siblings: Michael (Rebecca), Sheila Byington (Richard) and Patricia Depner, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyn was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen Oyler Ballard.
