IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marlene
Wollaston
May 3, 1938 – November 22, 2022
Marlene Neilsen Wollaston passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 22, 2022, in Orem, Utah. She was born May 03, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is the daughter of Joan Marie Jacobsen and Marlow Sheldon Neilsen.
Marlene spent her childhood in Salt Lake City with her parents and sister, Diane. From a young age, she learned the value of hard work and education. She attended and graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received a full-ride scholarship to attend Utah State University through the home economics program. During her first year, she became acquainted with a handsome young man named George Wollaston, who was currently attending the University of Utah. After deliberation, she left her scholarship to follow her sweetheart, George, to Salt Lake City. They were happily married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1958.
After graduating from the University of Utah, she was a home economics teacher for several years. She loved each opportunity to teach and serve those around her. In addition to her loving and faithful care for her family, she served her neighborhood and community. Her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was significant to her. She served as the stake relief society president, primary president, senior missionary (England), scout leader, temple worker, and in several other capacities. She had faith in every footstep. Her testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was unwavering.
Marlene will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She loved her children and grandchildren. Marlene taught them to garden, sew, bake, and love the Lord. She was an example of pure devotion. Her family has been incredibly blessed by her caring and faith-filled life.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Marlow S. Neilsen, and Joan M. Jacobsen, and her son Gordon G. Wollaston. She is survived by her husband, George; sister Diane Anderson (LaVon); her daughters Kristine Anderson (Dave); Kathleen Hunsaker; and her son Stephen Wollaston (Darcy); 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In place of flowers, we invite you to honor her memory by serving others as she did. Serve someone who is lonely, tired, or needs help. The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Cascades at Orchard Park care center who cared tirelessly and lovingly for our wife, mother, and grandmother during this last month.
