Obituary

Mary Ellen Norsworthy Moses was born on October 24, 1932 in San Diego, California. She was a beloved daughter of Bonnie John and Marie Alvarado Norsworthy. "B.J." and Marie raised their children: Bonnie Jean, Donald, Mary Ellen, and Lonnie John in San Diego California. Mary Ellen grew up in some of the most challenging times in our nation's history during The Great Depression and World War II. As a teenager Mary Ellen began her quest to find Christ's church. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her example led her parents and siblings to also join the church. Her family continues to value her legacy of faith in Jesus Christ. Mary Ellen married Gordon Woodruff Moses on October 3, 1951. They share five children: Laura (William Chipman), Gordon (Kathy), Donald (Susan), Darin (Deanne), and John (AnneMarie). They first raised their family in San Diego, California and later moved to Provo, Utah. Mary Ellen's posterity includes: her 5 children, 25 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen was always fiercely devoted to her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would always tell them how much she loved them and how important they were to her. She dedicated her life to the benefit of her family: her time, her talents, her money, her home and most importantly her love to the enrichment and bettering of their lives. Mary Ellen had a larger than life personality that was loved by so many. People were drawn to her laugh, her amazing sense of humor, her cheerful disposition and her wise advice. Children loved and appreciated Mary Ellen's masterful story telling. They delighted in her wonderful stories as she faithfully served in Primary for over 30 years, volunteered in schools, and made appearances at her grandchildren's parties. She had a love for little children, always teaching them to follow Christ's example; with her stories, her artwork, and her songs. Mary Ellen had a love for the arts. She was a talented singer and artist. In her youth she was part of a children's group that performed on a radio show. In later years she sang in the chorus of the San Diego Opera. She was a talented sketching artist and painter. She drew portraits of her children and grandchildren and painted beautiful paintings. Her paintings decorate the homes of her children, grandchildren, and friends much to their delight. Later in life she returned to school and became a dental assistant. She spent many years working in this profession sharing her positive, friendly personality with her co-workers and hundreds of patients. Mary Ellen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ throughout her life. After she retired, she was honored to serve a mission, in McAllen, Texas. She loved relearning Spanish, the language of her early childhood, and sharing the gospel with the sweet people of Texas. Throughout her retirement years she enjoyed spending her time with her family, fulfilling her church callings, and making friends. She always had a smile and a joke for those she met, bringing her light into their lives. Mary Ellen Norsworthy Moses was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by all that love her. A celebration of Mary Ellen's life will be held at a later date.
