Maxine Elizabeth Bowen passed away peacefully October 19, 2020 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, surrounded by a handful of her loved ones. Maxine was born May 21, 1937 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Fayora and Wilber Waisner. She was the third of five children. She often reminisced about those early years living in Hiawatha, Wyoming in a tar paper shack. Maxine contracted Rheumatic Fever as a child and was bed-ridden for two years though she remembered those times fondly. She often told stories of her father serving as her home-school teacher and of the tutor he hired to help her. It was likely these early experiences that influenced her natural ability as a caretaker in caring for her mother, her children and her late husband. Maxine was blessed with six children: Julie Mitchell, Lori (Ezra) Larsen, Susan Wilkinson, Clay Gillies, Mikel Gillies and Brian (Julie) Gillies. She had 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was always so excited at the birth of each baby and though she didn't get out much in her final years, she always asked about each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maxine was a hard worker and worked in many different service industries including food service, cosmetology, and as a secretary. Her favorite job was working for the Head Start school lunch program. She loved being around the children. When her family was young, she worked whenever and wherever she could to provide for their needs. Maxine's life was certainly not easy. For the most part, she reared her children on her own. She was a frugal person and did everything she could to provide for her children, two of whom had Type 1 Diabetes. Maxine had a love for music of many genres. Her children all remember waking up earto the radio playing and having it play all day until it was time for the 6:00 news. She was an avid reader and loved romance novels. She enjoyed and excelled at gardening both flowers and vegetables. When her children were all grown, she married David Stuart Bowen in 1994. During her years with David, she discovered wintering in St. George, golf, poetry, and the art of relaxing and enjoying life. Maxine was preceded in death by three of her children: Clay Gillies, Mikel Gillies and Lori Larsen; son-in-law, Ezra Larsen; grandson, Skye Barton; great granddaughter, Riftyn Skye Bramwell; husband, David Bowen; sister Shirley Adams and her parents. She is survived by her children: Julie Mitchell, Susie Wilkinson and Brian (Julie) Gillies; 15 grandchildren: Jeramy Barton, Wendy (Jed) Widdison, and Sciena (Matt) Bramwell, Lee (Becky) Larsen, Chris Larsen, Emilie Larsen, Nicole (Ben) Walker, Bobby Wilkinson, Travis Wilkinson, Cassie Gillies, Savanna (Alex) Wall, McKenna (Chayton) Haveron, Kayden Gillies, Kylie Gillies and Avie Gillies; and 11 great grandchildren, Jezni, Will, TJ, Hailey, Aria, Aurora, Corwin, Eathan, Vivian, Lauren and Emma; her siblings Wilbur Waisner, Norma (Keith) Hovland, and Betty Kearin.
