Melanie Denise McDonald Obituary - April 19, 2018 Melanie Denise McDonald entered the world as an "old soul" on February 10, 1960. She was the first of six children (Tammy, Kim, Laura, Matt, James) in the family of Richard (Dick) McDonald and Denise Nelson McDonald. She was born and raised in Escondido, California with a short stint in Richfield, Utah. As the oldest, Melanie was a born nurturer, mature beyond her years, fearlessly babysitting and cooking for her younger siblings as early as 8 years old. She's continued to be a role model and is fiercely loved by her brothers and sisters. Melanie was blessed with five children, Shelby, Kyle, Tara, Dakota, and Isaac and a daughter-in-law, Lizzie. She was a clever, creative and loving mother, cheerfully preparing delicious meals and last minute sewing projects like polar bear costumes. She and her husband David Johansen were sealed in the Latter-day Saint, San Diego temple June 26, 1999. She loved the gospel and had a strong testimony that families can be together forever. She served in many capacities in the church, community and workforce. Generations of children at the school where she worked adored their "Mrs. J." and visited her regularly at her desk. Among her many traits, her gift of listening was a major reason she was so loved. She was selfless and rarely spoke about herself. Because Melanie didn't often speak about her own life or challenges, there are many surprising facts about her that some people might not be aware of. For example, she was a certified SCUBA instructor and a skilled diver. She was a fantastic water-skier, and dirt-bike rider. She was a poet and could craft a clever phrase. After getting her concealed carriers permit, she was almost always packing and was most certainly the "fastest draw in the west" (of eagle mountain). She loved dancing, and when she wasn't dancing in the kitchen, she was cooking in the kitchen. She was a gifted seamstress and once made a pair of pants in 4 minutes. Some other titles she's been known by include Bread Queen, blackjack dealer, spinner-of-tales, jack of all trades, and solid chocolate bunny. She could basically be, and do ANYTHING. It can't be understated just how talented she was in cooking, sewing and everything else she attempted. Overall, Melanie lived in the present and embraced every moment to the fullest. Her courage and faith through challenges inspires everyone. She heroically faced an 8-year battle with cancer and triumphed on April 19, 2018 when she peacefully passed away at her home in Eagle Mountain.
