Melpha Babcock Healy completed life's journey on August 4, 2019 at the wise, old age of "99 and a half". She was able to maintain the independence of living in her own home almost to the very end. Melpha was born in Roosevelt, Utah on January 19, 1920. She moved with her family to Orem when she was thirteen years old. A couple of years later, she met her eternal sweetheart, Hyrum "Lester" Healy. They were married on December 7, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were just three months short of celebrating their 75th anniversary when Lester passed away. Together they raised four children: Max (Myrleen), Jay (Vikki), Marie Gappmayer (Merrill), and Julie Gurr (Eric). Melpha's life was built around loving her family. At the time of her passing, she had 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 43 great, great-grandchildren. Melpha is also survived by her sister, Erma Tolman and her brother, Dean Babcock. Melpha was always willing to help others and she served in many different callings within her LDS Ward. She had an incredible work ethic and thirst for knowledge. She pursued an education to become a nurse and scored at the top of her class in practicums and state testing. She worked for several years at Utah Valley Hospital. Melpha's hands were never idle and she created many varied and beautiful handicrafts including hundreds of quilts and crocheted afghans. She was also a prolific writer of poetry - expressing her religious beliefs, thoughts on life, and lessons for her posterity. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 9, 2019, 11:00 a.m. in the Cascade 3rd Ward, 1051 East 200 North, Orem.  Family and friends may visit Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, or Friday morning at the church from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery.
