Obituary

Michael Dell Hopkins

Michael (Mike) Hopkins passed away on September 26, 2026, from a traumatic brain injury at the age of 77.

Mike was born March 23, 1949, to Jay Richard and Larue Evans Hopkins in Provo, Utah.

He grew up in Orem and proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1973, during which time he was stationed in Thailand. He often spoke Thai to his children, usually when he didn't want them to understand what he was saying. We often joked that he was probably cussing us out. After his military service, he worked at Geneva Steel, where he built a career and many lasting friendships. He was a true people person who never met a stranger and he enjoyed striking up conversations with everyone he met.

He had a deep love for wood carving and enjoyed searching for the perfect stick to turn into a walking stick adorned with his special carvings. He took great pride in each piece he created and was always eager to show off his latest work.

He is survived by his loving mother, Larue Hopkins; his children, Tina (Steven) Majers, Tony (Shannon) Hopkins, Shannon (Shane) Farley, and Kemmer (Suzanne) Williams. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Alisha Majers, Steven Majers, Kelsey Hallett, Kayden Hopkins, Chloe Mertz, Kennedy Farley, Regan Farley, Nixon Farley, Ollie Williams, and Ezra Williams. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Traxston Majers and Kaizdon Hallett.

He is further survived by his brothers, John R. Hopkins and Patrick Hopkins. He also leaves behind his best friend and confidant, Linda Hopkins, whose love, companionship and friendship meant so much to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jay R. Hopkins, and his brothers, Josh Hopkins, Larry Hopkins, and Robin Hopkins.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the memories, laughter, and love he shared throughout his life. His kindness, sense of humor, and gift for connecting with others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He courageously fought cancer for more than 10 years and was determined to beat it. In the end, cancer did not take him; his body grew tired, but his spirit never wavered

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
