Obituary

Michelle Lyn Hooley Bauer passed away in the hospital on October 2, 2022 after the last of many battles throughout her life with her health. From the early diagnosis of ITP when she was 3 years old to two open-heart surgeries to replace faulty heart valves in the last two years, she fought long and hard.

Michelle was born in West Covina, California on July 26, 1974. She is second of six children of Var Dee and Linda (Miner) Hooley. In early 1977 her family moved to Orem, Utah where she grew up busy and happy. She had a rough time with her ITP until she was about 12 years old when it seemed to go into remission. She loved life and was very active. She loved the outdoors, cycling, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, camping, traveling, and being with her family. She graduated from Mountain View Highschool in 1992. She then attended Ricks College graduating from the Nursing Program in 1994. She also became a Massage Therapist which helped her as a Nurse to comfort her patients. Education was very important to Michelle. Her goal was to go back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner.

While interviewing for nursing jobs Michelle worked as a Flagger on road construction crews. Best looking flagger ever! Michelle loved being a Nurse. She helped many of her patients through their end-of-life struggles on the 7th Floor of Utah Valley Hospital. She also enjoyed the hustle and bustle of working in the Emergency Room, then cared for patients in their homes as a Home Health Nurse.

In 1999 Michelle married John Lee Bauer. She and John were sealed in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. They are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Cassi and Courtney. She loved her dogs Tysee then Jada. After their passing she adopted a rescue dog, Coco. During her last three weeks in the hospital Coco and Cassi's cat, Lokey, missed her terribly.

With the birth of her children the ITP struggles returned. Her health since then has been up and down. She was a fighter.

Michelle was beautiful, Awesome, loving, kind, caring, smart, and funny. She was out going, sarcastic, sassy, and selfless. She had a talent for making those around her laugh. She never asked for anything but gave endlessly to us all. Even while in her ICU hospital room she wanted her visitors to feel comfortable so she tried to visit and act like the pain wasn't so bad.

Michelle is survived by her husband, John, her daughters Cassi and Courtney, her parents Var Dee and Linda Hooley, brothers Eric and Ryan and their wives, sisters Alissa, JaNae and Tessa and their husbands, in-laws Gary and Grace Bauer, five in-law brothers and sisters and their spouses, many nieces and nephews, and one 4-month-old grand-niece.

A viewing will be held Saturday morning October 8th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the LDS Chapel 2168 South 140 West, Orem, followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
