Obituary

Mildred "Uvonne" Varney of 89 years, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of Orem, Utah passed away on October 30, 2025. She was born on March 22, 1936 to Gale and Mildred Elva Edwards in Filmore, UT. She was the oldest child of eight, six sisters and one brother. During her senior year of high school, the family moved from Fillmore, Utah to Ely, Nevada. Since graduation was only a few months away, Uvonne returned to Fillmore to graduate with her class at Millard High in 1954.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was devoted to our Savior Jesus Christ. She made a goal to marry in the temple and have an eternal family. She met and dated Clark E Varney in Ely, Nevada in 1955. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 24, 1956.

They moved to Provo, Utah in 1956 where Clark attended Central Utah Vocational School. Later they moved to Orem, Utah where they raised their five children.

She faithfully served in many church callings including Relief Society, Primary and The Young Women's organization. She also served for three years, with her husband, as a Service Missionary at the Church Cannery in Lindon, UT.

When her children were young, she enjoyed being a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, often making matching clothing for her children. During her life, she worked at various retail stores, such as, Firmages Department Store, Grand Central, and ZCMI. She also managed The Fabric Shop for many years.

Uvonne was deeply devoted to her family. She had 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took time to attend their many various events. Like most women of her generation, she felt it was very important to look her best, such as, wearing her jewelry and getting her hair done. She also loved getting manicures and pedicures, even until the end. Throughout her life, she enjoyed walking and attending various exercise classes.

She loved spending time with her parents, sisters, and brother. She enjoyed celebrating birthdays with her sisters and taking trips with them. For many years they also gathered together to make a quilt for the annual family reunion. When life became physically challenging, the sisters would make added efforts to see that she could participate.

In April 2024, she moved to Summerfield assisted living where she was loved by many staff and residents.

She is survived by her six sisters, five children, Leslie Jean (Robert) Valentine, Cathy Lynn (Daniel) Gleason, Glenna Lee (Daniel) England, Cynthia Paza (Scott) Chandler, and David Clark (Wendy) Varney, 16 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
