In Loving Memory of Mischell Tilley

May 13, 1957 – June 27, 2026

Mischell Tilley, a woman who filled every room she entered with light and laughter, passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 69. After bravely fighting cancer for over a year, she passed away surrounded by her husband, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, and her best friend, Nancy. Throughout her battle, her best friend and children cared for her and never left her side. They admired her as she remained amazingly selfless, cheerful, and optimistic until the very end, and her strength will never be forgotten.

Born on May 13, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, Mischell spent the majority of her life in Southern California, making beautiful memories while raising her four children. She eventually made her way to Utah for the last, and most fulfilling, 16 years of her life. While in Utah, she found immense joy in watching her daughters become mothers and being a Grammy to five beautiful grandchildren. She also reunited with her best friend, Nancy, and met her husband, Joey. It didn’t matter where Mischell was; what mattered most were the people she was with. Her family and the ones she loved were her whole world.

Mischell showed her love in many ways. She always made time to show up for every moment, big or small, for those she loved. She remembered the little things, frequently showing up with a treat or a gift just for you, and made sure everyone felt truly special.

Mischell had a gift for playfully saying exactly what she thought, but she always did it in a way that was never unkind. It made everyone around her laugh, and more importantly, it always made her laugh, too. She never took herself too seriously, and that easy, joyful honesty was simply part of the light she carried. She was lighthearted and feisty, sassy and tender, all at once.

Her grandchildren knew her best by two words, "Excuse me!", which meant they’d better drop whatever they were doing and give her a hug. Sev, Hayzen, Ari, Dylan, and Rye will remember that phrase, and the warmth behind it, for the rest of their lives. That was Mischell: playful, a little bossy in the best possible way, and underneath it all, a woman who wanted her people close.

Mischell is survived by her husband, Joseph Tilley; her son, Jason Prows; and her daughters, Lindsey Steele (husband Scott, and children Ari and Dylan) and Kelly Wardell (husband Casey, and children Sev, Hayzen, and Rye). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Prows; the father of her children, Reed Prows; and her brother, John Powell, with whom she is now joyfully reunited.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Applegate Homecare & Hospice, particularly Savannah, Mischell's nurse, for the compassionate care and love she showed Mischell in her final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center located at 10344 S. Kestrel Rise Rd., South Jordan, Utah 84009.
