Obituary

Nancy Sue Gleason Woodard was born November 19th,1947, to Roy R. Gleason and Carol Jones Gleason in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her first words were yá'át'ééh (Navajo for ''all is good' or 'hello") learned from a work crew across the fence. Her love of the Southwest would continue throughout her life.

In her early years, Nancy lived in and attended schools in New Mexico, Texas, and Utah as the family followed her father's work as Safety Director for Southern Union Gas Company.

Nancy's early years were marked by grief, losing her father when he was just 39 and she 12. The family then moved to Farmington, New Mexico to be near family for support.

It was there that she first saw Lonnie Woodard "flying through the air" on his motorcycle. While his crash landing broke his leg, he got her attention, they fell in love and were married for 29 years. They later divorced but out of that union came 6 spirited children, Lori, Claire, Mikey, Lincoln, Geoff, and Joel who were profoundly important to her.

As a young mother, Nancy nursed her mother Carol through cancer, giving her a loving environment to live out her last days. Later that same year, she also lost her 3-year-old son, Mikey.

In the following years, she would bury 3 more of her children- Lincoln, Claire and Geoff.

Nancy, like her own mother, struggled deeply in the aftermath of grief. She did her best to forge a home life for her children, who (let's be honest) all gave her a serious run for her money.

She loved racquetball, had a talent for interior decorating, and showed her love through cooking. She also loved her Porsches, and most grandchildren claim the first time they went over 100mph was with her. She was musically talented playing the piano, pump organ, hammer dulcimer and sultry as she also encouraged her children musically. She served on the board and as co-chair for the Festival of Trees combining her love of art and Christmas to raise thousands for Primary Children's Medical Center.

As her children grew, so did her obsession with police scanners and eventually, she started a career as a 911 dispatcher for both Pleasant Grove and Provo Police Departments. She was known as a difficult but excellent trainer, and this grew into a head supervisory position. Later, she moved to managing Records and Evidence for PGPD. She knew how to respond in situations of crisis, even calling Life Flight for her own son, not once but twice, while having to remain at her post, handling calls and radio traffic until she could be relieved. While she was excellent at her job, she also enjoyed playing pranks on her coworkers and was known for her wit and incredible, dry sense of humor.

Nancy is now reunited with her daughter, Claire Marie, and her sons Michael, Lincoln and Geoff as well as her parents. She was so ready.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Lori (Jeff) Richey, her son Joel Woodard,10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren as well as her brothers, Ron and Randy Gleason. Nieces, nephews and cousins all consider her their "favorite".

Nancy's life serves as a reminder of some of the simplest joys:

Sit on the porch swing and spend peaceful afternoons with a good book.

Spend summers and weekends playing cards with the people you love.

Show your love with food– a simple peach cobbler will do.

Indulge your creativity. Paint something just for the fun of it.

And maybe, just for yourself, drive a car that sparks a little joy.
