Naomi Throckmorton Greenhalgh, 86, died peacefully at her home in Orem, UT on April 5, 2020. Mom was the eldest daughter born to Elda Pierce & Ammon Throckmorton on September 15, 1933, in Genola, UT.
Their family moved to Spanish Fork in 1941, enjoying electricity, running water and telephone. In the Fall of 1944, Grandpa had saved enough money to buy property in Payson, UT. He wanted to be self-employed, and his business was Throckmorton Coal Dealer & Tote Gote, on 8th West in Payson.
The terrible World War II seemed like it would never end, and the family experienced the loss of loved ones, as so many others did.
Mom knew she would never find friends like she'd made in Spanish Fork. Yet on the first day of school, she came home excitedly telling Grandma about all these neat girls; eight in total. These friendships lasted a lifetime. Church activities, outdoor slumber parties, eating green apples & dill pickles, school activities were a few fond memories.
She was chosen queen of the Black Hawk Celebration, in connection with the Payson Home Coming in 1949, as Princess Pamona. Harold Patten served as Chief Black Hawk, and they loved riding a float in parades around the state. She was interviewed by Governor J. Bracken Lee, and they sang "Indian Love Call," at the program in the park.
Mom had met her handsome husband in High School, Karl D Greenhalgh, from Santaquin. They were engaged and then married on her seventeenth birthday, at her Payson home. Dad could only get two days off from his work at Geneva Steel, for a short honeymoon to Ogden & Salt Lake City. Their dinner program reception was held the next weekend at the Third Ward church. Grandma made her beautiful slipper satin wedding dress, which had a long train, and covered buttons, which she wore twice. Gladiolus adorned the reception.
Mom & Dad moved to Santaquin and lived with Grandpa Dan & Grandma Olive Greenhalgh. They built a small house, through the block on 100 East shortly after. Additions were added as their five children came. Material possessions were never important to our parents, but they worked very hard to provide. Family was everything to them.
Dad worked at Geneva, besides farming over 200 acres of his family's property. Mom worked along side, as well as a cook, baker and lunchroom manager in the Nebo School District & for BYU Food services. Her many talents and hobbies include singing as a trio with Marie Petersen & Sandra Armstrong, playing the accordion & piano, sewing, canning, 4H, Church callings, being happy, never gossiping, long rides with Dad, their orchard, fishing & camping at Boulder Mountain. She was asked to be sing with the Tabernacle Choir, but it was too far away. "Sweet" is a common adjective people use to describe her.
Probably the greatest example is her unyielding testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, Heavenly Parents, and the Gospel. Never giving up, enduring trials and health tribulations; so many which would break others quickly. Patiently she waited for 48 years, to become a forever family sealed to our Dad, in the Manti Temple.
She is survived by children Dianne (Jack) Butler, Orangeville, UT; Carl (Jennifer) Greenhalgh, Hinckley, UT; Anna Lee Greenhalgh, Elmo, UT; Pat (Ralph) Ursulich, Orem, UT; and Dallas (Terrie) Greenhalgh, Provo, UT, and 17 grandchildren & 33 Great grandchildren, and many Nieces & Nephews. Her sisters Roxie (Bill) Fackrell, South Jordan, UT; Elaine (Larry-deceased) Farr, Payson, UT; and Karla Dee Gregg, Magna, UT.
Mom was preceded in death her parents, many brother & sister in laws, and by our hero Dad, Karl D Greenhalgh on September 16, 2002. As well as sister Nora Fackrell, Brother in law Larry Farr, and Great grandson Trent Butler. Mom will be dearly missed, but we are so happy she is no longer suffering. What a great Heavenly reunion is happening. Please remember, "ALL IS WELL!"
Many thanks to Baylee Powers & Chris Cunanan, from First Choice Home & Hospice, who provided such loving and extended care. Orchard Park Care Center, Revere Health & Utah Valley Hospital Staff's also provided excellent medical care.
