Obituary

Nellie Jane Clark Jensen of Orem, Utah passed away peacefully in her home on January 6, 2022. She was with loved ones when her mortal journey concluded and she was reunited with her husband, Pete, who preceded her in death in October 2015. Nellie is survived by her seven children, Ann-Marie, M. Pete II, Tami, David, John, Michelle, and Melissa, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four siblings, Carl, Floyd, Betty, and JoAnn. Nellie was born to Leonard and Leone Clark on August 28, 1941 in Bentonville, Arkansas and spent the majority of her childhood and adolescence in various areas of Colorado. As a child, Nellie grew up on a farm. From a very young age, she was either outside helping in the fields with her father, or inside cooking with her mother. She learned to sew very well, later sewing costumes for her children's dance recitals. Nellie graduated high school with honors, earning a full scholarship to college. During her freshman year of college, she began receiving lessons from missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was baptized and confirmed a member of the church in January 1960. She then transferred to BYU Provo Campus for her sophomore year, where she would later meet her sweetheart M. Peter Jensen. Nellie and Pete were married June 8, 1963 by their bishop, LaVell Edwards. On September 28, 1964, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to each other and their 3-month-old daughter, Ann-Marie. Pete and Nellie raised their seven children in Orem, Utah. In addition to her role as a wonderful mother to her seven children, Nellie assisted her husband in 1973 with the opening of his own bakery and catering business, the Scandinavia Bake Shoppe, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Following the closure of the bakery, Nellie began working for BurrellesLuce in Provo, Utah. She started her career in the Human Resources department and, after 27 years of service, retired as Director of Human Resources in October 2009. Her coworkers had the following words to share at her retirement: "Although her title doesn't necessarily indicate it, she has become a close friend and confidant to many of the employees over the years. She has continually gone above and beyond in all her dealings with the employees. When her commitment to Burrelle's conflicted with the wishes of her children they had a special name of "Nellie Burrelle" to describer her. Whether it be job-related or personal, Nellie has always been there with a shoulder to cry on, a lending hand, or just an ear. No concern has ever been too big or small to get her undivided attention and aid in arriving at a solution." Most of all, Nellie enjoyed the time spent dedicated to her family and often sacrificed her own dreams and desires to support those of her children. As a family, they enjoyed many camping trips throughout the western United States and frequent trips to Southern California where they made many magical memories at Disneyland, which became a favorite destination for all of her children. Nellie and Pete were also able to travel to Portugal with their sons, David and John, at the conclusion of David's mission. On that trip, they toured several European countries. Nellie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served many meaningful callings, enjoying her time in primary and Young Women's the most.
