IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Anderson
Bell
April 23, 1958 – May 31, 2024
Our darling Patricia "Patti" Anderson Bell passed away peacefully in her home on May 31, 2024 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Patti was born to Carl David Anderson and Rosalin Viola Carlston Anderson on April 23, 1958 in Munich, Germany while Carl was serving as a flight instructor in the US Air Force. Patti was named after her grandmother Alice Anderson, who was nicknamed and called Aunt or Mommy Pat by her family. Patti did a lot of international travel while still just an infant. After leaving the armed forces, the Anderson family relocated to Ogden, Utah for a short time before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Patti's earliest recollections were of the times spent playing outside with her older brother David on a playground by the University of Utah, while her father was attending medical school. She fondly remembered living in Blackfoot, Idaho for a summer while her father was doing a rotation. It was a fun summer with her brother David, younger brother Brent, and newborn sister Janet.
The family then moved back to Ogden, Utah for a few years before moving to Orem, Utah. Orem was where Patti completed elementary, junior high, and high school. She graduated from Orem High in 1976. Her childhood and growing up years were filled with happiness and love. Some of her favorite childhood memories were times spent with family: adventures with her parents and 6 siblings such as camping and road trips; singing camp songs with her Anderson family in Inkom, Idaho; and spending time with her grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousins in Fairview, Utah. She developed a love of music, learning to play piano and oboe, as well as sharing her beautiful singing voice.
Patti attended Brigham Young University and earned a degree in elementary education. She took time away from her scholastic studies to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served with her full might in the Belgium Brussels Mission, French speaking. She made lifelong connections and friendships during her mission. Upon her return and completion of her college education, Patti began teaching 1st grade at Cherry Hill Elementary School. Patti had a special ability to connect with children and that continued throughout her life as she interacted with and nurtured her own children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and all she met and loved.
While teaching her first year, she met her eternal companion and sweetheart, Cory Wesley Bell. They met for the first time when they had a blind date on Halloween, but it turned out not to be scary at all. They continued dating and fell head over heels for each other. Patti and Cory were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 6, 1983. They lived in Orem, Utah until they moved to Southern California in 1985 with their two sweet daughters, Kathryn and Kristine. Patti had great joy in motherhood and being a wife. While living in California they welcomed a third daughter, Stephanie, to the family.
In 1989 the Bell family moved to Kent, Washington where they lived for 25 years. Here Patti and Cory established a home full of faith, love, laughter, and joy, raising their 3 daughters and adding 3 more children, Carin, Sarah, and Nathan. Patti and Cory taught their children the importance of honesty, working hard, and helping others. In 2014, they returned to Orem, Utah to be of service to both their parents. Patti was thrilled to move into the home built for her grandmother, Mommy Pat. She enjoyed this time of life as their children started their own families. In her final year of life she was able to hold 3 new grandsons. As with all her grandchildren, they were soothed by her loving voice singing lullabies and primary songs to them.
Patti is survived by husband Cory Bell; children Kathryn Sanders, Kristine Floyd (Raymond), Stephanie Tafuri (Nicholas), Carin Hughes (David), Sarah Josephine Bell, Nathan Cory Bell (Callie); grandchildren Caden Sanders, Alice and Wesley Floyd, Vincent, Marcus, Lucas, and Maxwell Tafuri, Joseph, Jack, and Raphael Hughes, Harmon Bell; mother Rosalin Anderson; siblings David Anderson (Lorelea), Brent Anderson (Becky), Janet Tolley (Bill), Jeff Anderson (Heather), Jared Anderson (Jane), Elizabeth Anderson; and many other loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her father Carl Anderson.
Patti lived her life emulating the Savior Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with Him. Patti went about doing good, ministering to those around her. She served faithfully in a variety of callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including in the nursery, Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, and as a missionary, ward choir director, seminary teacher, and temple worker. Her love for the gospel was felt in the classes she taught, the music she directed, and by the people she served. It was through her service that she met friends who she cherished her whole life. Patti loved to feast upon the Word of God. She was seen daily studying the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon. She was always looking for ways to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and prayer.
Patti had a special spirit of kindness, a compassionate heart, and a gentle soul. She made all feel welcome, loved, and wanted. She made the world a more beautiful place wherever she went. Her love of music, traditions, games - especially Rook and Settlers, cheering on the BYU Cougars, reading, gardening, creating rhymes, and encouraging fun for children is etched into her family's memories. Although she would never own up to it, she had a creative nature - sewing for her children, quilting for her grandchildren, changing the words to songs, beautifying her home, and the many delicious meals that came from her kitchen.
Patti's family was her world. She loved them and they adored her. She was the very definition of a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Her grandchildren were her sweeties and the apples of her eye. Even as she fought through cancer treatment, she found ways to teach and inspire her family. She leaves us with a lasting heritage of charity, discipleship, and beauty that we all will endeavor to honor. Until we meet again.
