Obituary

Patricia Joyce Farr (née LeSueur)–longtime resident of Mission Viejo, CA and recent resident of Provo, UT–passed away on July 27, 2023 in Provo with her family by her side. She was 84 years old.

Pat was born on May 26, 1939 in Huntington Park, CA to Karl and Merle LeSueur, the youngest of six children. She was raised in the LDS Church and remained dedicated to her faith throughout her life.

From a young age, Pat loved singing and performing. She and a childhood friend, Jeanie, would hang blankets from a backyard clothesline and perform for neighborhood children, whom they would charge a dime. They spent their earnings at the local market on candy bars and lemonade. Pat was especially fond of chocolate. She also enjoyed roller-skating, jumping rope, and going to the beach with her best friend, Norine. At Huntington Park High School, she sang in the acapella choir and worked in a millinery. She attended BYU for one semester before returning to LA.

Pat met her husband, David, at a dance held at the Wilshire Ward. They danced together all night. David was smitten by Pat's radiant smile, sense of humor, and stunning beauty. The two were married and sealed at the LDS Los Angeles Temple on July 14, 1962 and honeymooned at the Farr cabin in Holiday Park–in the Weber Canyon of the sublime Uinta Mountains. They would eventually have their own cabin at Holiday Park, a place they took their family for weeks at a time in the summer months.

In time, Pat and Dave had three children–Michael, Stephanie, and Alisa–whom they began raising in in West Los Angeles. Eventually, they moved to Mission Viejo, which at the time was a new planned community, in 1976. They spent the next 46 years in the same beautiful home there. Pat became pregnant with a surprise fourth child, Jason, who spoiled a planned family vacation to Hawai'i. Beyond her family, Pat was treasured by neighbors, friends, and members of her church.

Pat loved reading, cooking, and gardening. She was an avid reader of fiction and the scriptures. Her front and back yards always had colorful, blooming flowers, a strawberry patch, and fruit-filled citrus trees. Her cooking specialties included spaghetti and meatballs, German pancakes, beef and carrot stew, and her iconic Sunday pot roast. A dedicated mother and homemaker, she prepared breakfasts and sack lunches for her children every morning, sending them off to school with a kiss and the magical words, I love you. Pat's favorite hobby, though, was shopping. She relished the time she spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the mall, where she would buy new outfits for any occasion: back-to-school, missions, weddings, or just for the heck of it. She loved a sale and would brag about how much money she saved on bargain buys to anyone who would listen.

Pat was a huge BYU sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball and football on television with Dave. She sang the line from the BYU Fight Song–"Rise and Shout the Cougars are out!"–to wake her children up on Saturday mornings. She was the biggest fan of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She supported them in whatever they pursued: dance, drill team, theater, singing, sports, and scouting. Her distinctive voice projected across the theater or basketball court. She made sure that her dear ones knew she was there, supporting them.

An ardent animal lover, Pat had dogs over the years–particularly once her children left the house. She was especially fond of Toby and Winston, adorable white fluff balls that were a source of joy and comfort to her. She loved singing songs to her dogs and would crack her family up with her charming, improvised verses.

Patricia is survived by her husband, David; children: Michael Farr, Stephanie (Jamey) Boyd, Alisa (Stuart) Harper, and Jason (Alan Nyitray) Farr; grandchildren: Ciera, Brianna, Jenna, Gavin, Spencer, and Lainey; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Sage, Oliver, Joseph, and Holland; and sister: Geneva Johnston.
