Obituary

Patrick Jorge Thomas, 83, of Orem died peacefully at his home on December 13, 2023.

He was born to Wayne Derral and Margaret Rebecca Brusnahan Thomas in American Fork, Utah on June 15, 1940. In his early years his family traveled around a lot while his dad worked during WWII at which time he lived in both Idaho and Utah, until his family finally settled in the small town of Peoa, Utah.

Patrick started school in American Fork and later graduated from South Summit High School in Kamas, Utah. At the age of 20, he served a mission in New Zealand for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In 1963, Patrick met RoseAnn Butler at a dance. Patrick and RoseAnn were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 9, 1963 and were blessed with ten children. Patrick and RoseAnn moved around many times until they bought their first home and settled in Orem. Orem is where Patrick and RoseAnn raised their children, and it is where Patrick has called home for the last 52 years. During their early years of marriage Patrick served in the Army and the Utah Army National Guard.

Patrick made his living as a brick mason to support his family. During his 40 years in this occupation he helped brick many buildings around the western United States, including: the original Provo hospital, post offices, church buildings, and homes. He would often take on extra work in the evenings cleaning the job sites to bring in added income for his family. He was a dedicated worker. He gave each job he did meticulous attention. He did not consider a job well done unless he had given it his all. His children learned the value of work alongside him.

Patrick was a man of many talents and had an accomplished skill set. His grandchildren believed he could fix anything. He enjoyed building things, listening to good music, reading, memorizing and playing with words, and he loved spending time with his family. If his grandchildren were visiting you could almost always find them watching Looney Tunes together. He always considered his family one of his greatest blessings and his greatest achievements.

He went about doing good and would go out of his way to serve and bless others. Patrick was a great example of what it means to be a good neighbor. He was friendly and welcoming to all and he looked for opportunities to make the lives of others easier. Each week, on garbage day, he would bring in his neighbor's garbage cans. He was consistently found helping his neighbors and the members of his community. He will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, service, humility, kindness, and quiet love. He will be dearly missed but we are grateful to know we can be with him again.

Patrick was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, and took every opportunity he could to serve. He held various callings including: ward clerk, nursery leader, cub scout leader, membership clerk, high priest group leader and elder's quorum president. He worked diligently and loved the Lord throughout his life.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters (Kathleen Ellen Gasu and Sharon LaRae Thomas) and his brother (Elmo David Thomas). He is survived by his wife of 60 years; RoseAnn Thomas and children Media Ann (Daniel) Burton of Eagle Mountain and Florida, Paul Patrick Thomas of Eagle Mountain, John Austin (Sarah) Thomas of Ephraim, Nolan W (Holly) Thomas of Eagle Mountain, Willard Andrew (Marsha) Thomas of Kuna, Idaho, Christine Thomas of Orem, Lawrence Darrell (Stephanie) Thomas of Tremonton, Janita (Bryce) Miller of Springville, Joanna (R. Shane) Owens of Orem, Mary Beth (Wellington Renato) Cifuentes of Orem, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two younger brothers Wayne Derral Thomas Jr. (Herriman), and Sean Michael Thomas (Virginia).
