IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy Belliston
Orton
November 6, 1937 – January 7, 2023
Peggy Lee Belliston Orton, 85, passed away January 7, 2023, in her home in Provo, Utah. She was born November 6, 1937, In Rupert, Idaho, to loving parents J. Boyd Belliston and Letha Lora Glenn. She especially enjoyed homemaking, music, and dance classes, as well as Pep Club, at Pendleton, Oregon High School, where she graduated in 1955. Her dream and goal in life was to become a wife and mother, and to create a loving, peaceful, and secure home for her future family. She attained a high degree of success in achieving these goals, in her lifetime of teaching by example, love, and dedication.
It was love at first sight for Peggy when she met Ferrin L. Orton, her sweetheart, to whom she was married on August 3, 1955, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, Temple. She was employed at Orem State Bank for a couple of years while her husband was a BYU student but was very desirous and grateful to return to full-time homemaking. She joyfully resided with her family in Provo, Utah, for the remainder of her life. There she raised her 3 sons and 4 daughters, who, along with their spouses, revere and honor their mother. They brought 28 loving grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren into her family circle.
Peggy was an avid seamstress who thoroughly enjoyed creating dresses for her daughters, as well as beautiful quilts for her loved ones. Forever, she will be lovingly admired for her delicious cooking and baking skills. She specialized in baking Chocolate Chip Cookies (keeping the jar continually filled, to the delight of her children and grandchildren!), hot homemade bread, and delicious caramels. Many neighbors and friends were recipients of these goodies, too. One of her great joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren reading children's books, with special dramatic expression that delighted, fascinated, and enthralled them.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent her life serving with joy and dedication. She had a strong and abiding testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved to be of service to those in need. She served in Relief Society as a President or counselor in multiple Ward and Stake Relief Society Presidency's, and over 60 years as a dedicated Visiting Teacher and Minister. Peggy also served two Church missions, with her husband, as Area Public Affairs Directors: one in the Africa Southeast Area, the other in the New Zealand Pacific Area. Following these missions, she served a part-time mission at the BYU Family History Center for five years, and there accomplished her goal of Indexing over 65,000 records.
She is survived by her husband and her children: Craig (Marie) Orton, La Grande, OR: Daryl (Randy) Rollins, American Fork, UT: Pamela (Kimball) Lynn, Cypress TX: Kent (Lorna) Provo, UT: Raquel (Jesse) Thomas, Cary, NC: Kristen (Rick) Jorgensen, Orem UT: Kevin (Nicki) Orton, Kanab, UT: 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren. Her surviving brothers are J. Richard (Nyla) Belliston, Laguna Niguel, CA: Douglas Belliston (Anita), Layton, UT: and sisters Patricia (David) Nelson, South Jordan, UT and Nancy Palmer, Leamington, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Boyd Belliston.
Peggy's family feels deep appreciation for the tender, loving, and outstanding compassionate care Peggy and her family were blessed with over the past year by exceptional caregivers from Envision Hospice: Kristee, Melissa, Lovette, and Mark. It was an honor to have them in our home and their kindness will never be forgotten.
