Obituary

Philip George Carroll, 62, of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away unexpectedly March 10, 2019 after a short illness.   He was born September 1, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to George Philip Carroll and Marguerite Anne Pearson.   He will be remembered as a thoughtful person with a very kind heart.  He was sensitive to others, especially those who were lonely and in need. He liked to teach and taught life lessons; what to do and what not to do. He was especially influential in the lives of Kurtis and Lindsay, who had a close relationship with Philip. He was born to play percussion and loved music of all kinds. He was a dedicated member of the Thomas Cordner Memorial Pipe Band at the time of his passing. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Montreal, Canada, Mission from 1976-1978. He was a long-haul trucker for many years and drove all over the United States.  He spent a lot of time with his brother Nathan who often was his trucking partner. He married Mary Ann Bills on June 11, 1981 and had three sons: Philip Richard, Thomas Ross, and Russell Lee Carroll. Philip is survived by his sons; father, George Philip Carroll of Williamsburg, Virginia; mother, Marguerite Carroll of Pleasant Grove; siblings; Erin (Mark) Sanderson of Alpine; Anne (Ridge) Gilmour of Ridgefield, Washington; Nathan (Kerry) Carroll of Lacey, Washington; Paige Allison Carroll of Pleasant Grove; nieces and nephews. He spent his childhood in Williamsburg, Virginia.  The family then moved to Utah where he attended Pleasant Grove Junior and Senior High Schools.  He took 2nd in the State Wrestling Championship in 1975, played varsity football, and drummed in various bands throughout his life.  He earned his Eagle Scout rank and a Bronze Palm.  He loved camping and being out in nature.  He was especially devoted to his rescue dog, Crusher, and they went on many hikes and walks together. People loved being around Philip.  He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. Graveside services will be Monday, March 18, 2019, 12:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, 500 North Main Street, Pleasant Grove.
