Phillip C. Goodrich
January 22, 1945 – September 25, 2021
Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Phillip C. Goodrich passed away peacefully at home on Saturday September 25, 2021 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Vernal, Utah January 22, 1945 to parents Clifton Merrell Goodrich and Ila Rae Duke, he lived most of his life in Orem, Utah.
After graduating from Orem High School, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Samoan Islands. This experience would influence him for the rest of his life as he returned many times for pleasure and to assist with philanthropic projects. He delighted in all aspects of Samoan life - the people, language, food, music and spiritual experiences. He shared this love with his family and friends.
Phil received Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Public Administration degrees from Brigham Young University and pursued a career in public finance. After leaving the City of Inglewood, California, he served many years as Chief Financial Officer for the City of Orem.
After being introduced on a blind date at BYU, he married his sweetheart, Marlene Mickelsen on May 27, 1972 and they recently celebrated 49 years together. They are parents of five children – Janene (Clay) Adams, Brian (Brianna), LeeAnn (Tom) Scott, Carrie (Dan) Dewey and Greg. They have thirteen grandchildren and love them dearly.
Phil loved life and had many interests. He pursued them to the fullest whenever possible. His passions included foreign travel, camping, boating, a private pilot's license and all things aviation.
One of his greatest passions was music. Over the years, he played piano, drums and percussion especially enjoying being part of a group that recreated the jazz sounds of the big band era.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life, he gladly served in various teaching and leadership positions including many years of temple service. He loved the scriptures and had an unwavering testimony of the restoration of the gospel and the Savior, Jesus Christ. His testimony blessed the lives of many others.
Anyone who knew him remembers his ready sense of humor. He was always ready with a joke, a story or a pun. Truly, he helped us all laugh a lot through life. His priorities might be summed up as faith, family and fun which he generously shared with everyone.
