Obituary

Bruce was born in Pocatello Idaho May 21, 1946, to Richard and Rhea Barrett. Early on, he moved with his family to Long Beach California where he lived for his elementary, Middle, and High school years. While attending Millikan High School, Bruce had many friends and was very involved in activities like student government, vocal music, football, basketball, and baseball.

During his Sophomore year he was selected as a foreign exchange student to The Netherlands. This began his love affair with the Netherlands, and the Dutch language. After finishing his high school education, at WestMinster High, he happily received a mission call for the LDS church to serve in The Netherlands. After his mission, he returned to Brigham Young University to finish his education.

He was surprised when two months later, a beautiful, blonde Co-ed, Tyra Christensen, stole his heart and they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on November, 15, 1968. After graduation, they lived for a time in Sacramento, California before returning to Provo, Utah to work in a family oil business. During this time Bruce and Tyra were busy with their 4 children, while Bruce worked many hours, in business and numerous church callings and responsibilities.

In 1990 Bruce and Tyra were called to preside over the Antwerp, Belgium mission, which was a highlight of their lives. In 1993 they returned to Utah where Bruce worked at Christensen Oil Company until retirement in 2010, due to numerous health challenges, including open heart surgery, cancer, and neuropathy.

These last years have been spent with family, and friends doing the things he loves most: golf, fishing and outdoor sports. Bruce leaves behind his wife Tyra, his 4 children, Jeff (Julie), Mark, Nate (Lindy), Ashli (Randall), 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, as well as 3 adoring sisters, Elaine Chowen, Carol Anne Daniels, and Kathi Wright.

We are happy that Bruce will be reunited with many loved ones on the other side, and grateful he is now free from the many physical ailments he experienced in this life.

Bruce passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, after years of struggles related to congestive heart failure. His funeral will be held Friday, June 17th at 11:00am, with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 located at the LDS chapel on 1600 N 1880 W St, Provo, UT 84604
