IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ray Melvin
Barney
October 31, 1954 – July 8, 2025
Ray Melvin Barney Jr, age 70, passed away peacefully on the early evening of July 8, 2025. Ray was born on October 31, 1954 in Provo Utah to Ray and Mary Barney. As the oldest of 6 kids in the family, dad has always been a leader and a doer. Growing up, his family moved around often, living in Utah, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Idaho and then back home to Utah.
Dad worked for Provo City for 35+years with most of his time spent working for the Power dept. There is where he met the love of his life Eileen Jenkins working at the front desk, she caught his eye immediately. They soon married in June 1981 and together, had 3 pretty dang cool sons. Dad was always looking for ways to serve others unnoticed. He never wanted the lime light. He never wanted the praise. He just wanted to make people happy. Dad was known for his dry humor and quick wit. He would quietly sit back and listen to a conversation, never interrupting, but when he spoke you listened because whatever he was going to say was about to be really smart, or really funny.
Dad lived a life of love, kindness and service. He took care of his people and you couldn't leave the house without an "I love you!" and a final "be safe".
Ray is survived by his wife Eileen, 3 sons Aaron (Tia), Kyle (Jordynn), and Clayton (Aubrey), 13 grandchildren, and his siblings: Sandra, Judy, Henry (Dottie), and Jim. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Mary Barney, sister Marilyn Ogren, sister-in-law Saundra Merritt.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
Services will be held on August 1st at Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home (646 E 800 N, Orem, UT 84097).
Visitation: 9:30–11:00 AM - Celebration of Life: 11:00 AM–12:00 PM
Interment to follow at the Orem City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Ray would love nothing more than for you to find a quiet way to brighten someone else's day. Do something kind. Expect no credit. Make someone smile.
"Be Safe!"
