On Sunday morning, April 28 th , 2019, our sweet Mom passed peacefully from this life. We know she was excited to be reunited with our Pop, but we will miss her terribly.
Reva was born in Douglas, Arizona on May 21 st 1949 to Leonard and Betty Haymore. She was the oldest of their six children, Renee Haymore, Lori Haymore (Michelle Bradshaw), Lisa Baker, Bruce Haymore, and Connie Haymore Gonzales. She loved spending time at the family ranch and feed store. When she graduated from high school, she attended Brigham Young University, where she met and married Richard Edwin Palmer. Richard proposed to her thirteen days after their first date, a classic BYU love story. They married on June 2 nd 1970 in the Salt Lake City Temple. After completing their bachelor degrees, Reva's in Family Sciences and Richard's in Industrial Education, Richard joined the Air Force and they embarked on what would become a journey across the country during his 20 years of service. During this time they were blessed with seven children, Reva Ann Cook (Clint), Richard Edwin Palmer II (Christine), Steven Leonard Palmer (Megan), Karen Palmer Whipple (Jason), Aaron Wayne Palmer (Sharla), Joy Arlene Yuasa (Masanori), and Jill Lynnette O'Farrell (Austin).
After Richard's retirement from the Air Force in 1993, they settled in Parkland, Washington, where Reva found purpose and enjoyment through involvement in various gardening organizations, including 30 years with Master Gardeners, serving on the Pierce County School Board for 14 years, and serving in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She particularly enjoyed teaching early-morning seminary.
Through her travel with the Air Force she learned that she loved new places and new experiences. She and Richard took many road trips throughout the years, the highlight of which was their final road trip where they drove the Al-Can Highway to the Arctic Circle. She enjoyed visiting new countries, and explored many of them with her children and grandchildren. She was especially happy to have checked the Caribbean Ocean off her bucket list with a trip to St. Lucia taken this past March.
She was not a "sitter", and kept busy with many hobbies. She adored gardening or "playing in the dirt" as she called it. She was an avid sewer, yard saler, reader (she greatly preferred non-fiction), and DIYer. She always had at least one project in progress. The day before she passed she sent this year's yard project list to Reva and Jill.
She and Richard retired to Utah in 2014 after he completed his second career as an Alternative High School teacher. Their intention was to grow old in American Fork and enjoy their retirement years. Life had other plans. Reva was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2015. They tackled this new challenge like they did every project, with teamwork and determination. Unexpectedly Richard preceded her in death on August 19 th 2017. She handled the shock and sadness of his untimely passing with her typical grace and faith. Her health continued to decline as many other physical challenges arose, but she remained determined that she still had things to do. She participated in life to the fullest of her abilities; she loved her book group, two Yahtzee groups, her Sunday school class, attending performances of all kinds including plays and operas, and her yoga class. Above everything else she loved her family. She loved each of them unconditionally and completely.
During her trip to St. Lucia the conversation turned towards advice, and what she thought would be the most important guidance she could leave. Her answer was simple, "Love One Another."
Reva is survived by her seven children and their spouses, three of her sisters, and twenty-six grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her sweetheart Richard, her parents, brother Bruce, and sister Connie.
