Rex Oman Smith of Provo, Utah, went home to be with the Lord on November 24, 2025. Born on January 4, 1957 in Safford, Arizona, he was a 1975 graduate of Thatcher High School in Thatcher, Arizona.

Rex was known for caring deeply for others especially his grandchildren and animals. Rex passed on a Monday night in the Provo hospital after collapsing from a brain hemorrhage in his home.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Fauna Costner Smith; his children: Xandra Pearl Wheeler, Jeremiah Xerxes Smith, Sier Remington Smith, Aaron Joseph Smith, Keith Lee Smith, Jacob Smith, Jess Ray Smith, Moriah Smith, Fauna Len Kellogg, and Thomas John Smith. He will also be missed by his children-in-law: Mason Wheeler, Kandra Strauss Smith, Benton Guthrie, Traci McCallister, and Brandon Kellogg. And missed by his grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law: Kloe, Madison, Dean Cunningham, Alexander, Delilah, McKayla, Paxton, Pharoah, Isaiah, Jackariah Rex, and Malachi Hugo. He is also survived by his siblings: Van, Jay, Yvonne Hansen, Arvid, April Allen and Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith E Smith, and Etta McRae Smith.

Rex was known as one of the last cowboys of our time. Passed down from his father before him, Rex carried a love for animals growing up on his family's cattle ranch the Gunstock Ranch. He taught his children to treat all animals with respect as well. His children remember riding horses on trails, roundups, and him catching rattlesnakes in the house only to drives miles into the wilderness to set them free.

When his later failing health made it harder to work as a truck driver or leave the home, Rex moved with his family from Thatcher, Arizona to Utah. And in his twilight years he was able to spend his days with his grandkids as they would often visit him daily.

He will be missed and leaves behind a legacy of loving animals, the Lord and his family. He has been a devout disciple of Jesus Christ as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Funeral Service will be 2:30 P.M., Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Lakeside Chapel, Provo, Utah with Bishop Southern presiding. Memorial Repast-Supper will immediately follow at 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm.
