Obituary

Richard John Allen, 87, returned to his Heavenly Father on February 8th, 2025, in Orem, Utah. Richard was born June 23rd, 1937, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to John Leonard Allen and Amy Leone (Judd) Allen.

In his early life Richard enjoyed fishing for trout and exploring the mountains of Alberta. He was Valedictorian of his High School graduating class. Richard served a mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1958-1960. Upon returning, he met the love of his life, Carol Lynn Hansen. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 18, 1961. He attended Brigham Young University earning a BA in both Physics and Math and a master's degree in German. As a faculty member in 1970, he, along with his family, enjoyed a semester abroad in Austria. Afterwards Richard earned his PhD in German history and literature, subsequently teaching and working in administration at John Hopkins University for the next 9 years. The family then returned to Utah in 1979 where Richard began working on various entrepreneurial pursuits. Richard was also a prolific business and religious author. He wrote and published over 40 faith-based LDS books, many of which are still sold at religious books stores throughout the intermountain west. Richard enjoyed serving in the church, holding many positions including gospel doctrine teacher, bishop and counselor in several stake presidencies. Richard's greatest joy came from loving, serving and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years Carol Lynn Allen, brother, Robert Allen (Daryl), daughter, Stephanie Conlee (Robert), Sons Matthew Allen and Nathan Allen, grandchildren, Brittany Taylor (Riley), Robert A Conlee, Kaitlyn Lewis (Benson), Sydney Grieve (Brock) Rylee Allen and great grandchildren, Brooklyn Taylor, Zoe Taylor, Isabelle Taylor, Max Taylor, Harvey Lewis, Frank Lewis and Winnie Grieve. Richard was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Hatch and daughter Adrienne Allen.

A special thanks to the loving members of the Aspen Stake, 4th Branch, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and his loving care givers at Covington Senior Living and Renew Hospice. He will be interred at the Orem Cemetery in Orem, Utah.
