Richard Mark Schelin, Lehi, Utah, passed away September 15, 2019 at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital.
Beloved second son born to the Irving Mosiah and Mary Liddell Schelin family on Friday the 13 th of September 1935 in the McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah. The family then moved to Sparks, Nevada where he grew up.
Richard served a 30-month LDS mission to Guatemala in Central America when he was 20 years old. At the age of 23 he attended Brigham Young University for college and then later the Phoenix University to receive his Master's degree. He was a Chaplain's Assistant in the U.S. Army from February 1959 to January 1961.
He moved from California to Provo, Utah where he met and married Reva Workman West on July 20, 1979.
He worked as the accountant for the Provo School District until he retired. Served in the Provo Missionary Training Center branch presidency and after he retired, he and Reva served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first to Martin's Cove in Wyoming and then in Cherry Hill, New Jersey as the office couple. They were also able to teach with other missionaries when time permitted. They were then called to serve at the Deseret Industries in St George, teaching the associates and helping them get their GED certificates.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and older brother Dale Schelin and a sister-in-law Susan Schelin. He is survived by his wife Reva and children; Sherri & Larry Athay, Barbara & Brent (deceased) Bigelow, Michael & Sandi West. Brothers Jay & Susan (deceased) Schelin, Bruce & Sharon Schelin, sisters Annette & Steve (deceased) Judd and Barbara & Larry Mullins.
Funeral Services will be Monday, September 23, 2019, 11:00 a.m., North Lake 2nd Ward, 828 South Center Street, Lehi, Utah. Family and friends may visit prior to services 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah.
